The mother of an Horry County Schools (S.C.) student has sued the district, alleging her sons constitutional rights were violated when the district denied him an appeal to a punishment he received at school. In February 2020,
the student was accused of licking his lips at a female classmate while he was a student at Ten Oaks Middle School. He received in-school suspension from the schools principal, according to a lawsuit filed in Court of Common Pleas in Horry County.
The students mother filed a written request to appeal her sons punishment, the lawsuit says. But the district didnt schedule an appeal hearing, or provide evidence and witnesses requested to substantiate the claims against the student, the lawsuit states.
The lawsuit claims these actions by the district violate the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, leading to mental anguish, medical expenses and loss of property interest. The 14th Amendment says U.S. citizens cant be denied life, liberty or property without due process of law.
The plaintiff is requesting an unspecified amount of damages from the district. The case, first filed in September, has been moved from Horry Countys Court of Common Pleas to U.S. District Court because it raises federal questions, according to court documents.

(9,081 posts)Such a strange trend. Not sure where it started. But it's one of those things where, once you see it, it will bother you for no reason.
When I was younger, I remember LL Cool J used to do this constantly, and I was never not confused.

(46,133 posts)In some parts of this country, you can get suspended for licking your lips.
But in OTHER parts of this country, after a failed administration/parent conference about a student potentially being dangerous, the same student is allowed to remain in the classroom. He later kills 4 students and wounds another 7.
I don't get it.

(34,195 posts)... for a boy to lick his lips at a girl?
It was a gross act for which he was punished and now his mother wants to make some money off it.
What medical bills did the boy incur over this?
That's one thing the mother is suing for.
