(43,165 posts)too bad I'll never get to use it in my blue area.
I did have to travel to a work meeting with a r-winger, though, and when we went to the meeting she put on a mask with sheep on it. I associate with so few of that ilk, however, that I was clueless and remarked, "Oh what cute little sheep."
Whoooosh.

(34,914 posts)I suspect she was not happy that it didn't get a rise out of you over it. Even more so that you were oblivious to her intent at the time. She probably though she was being smart wearing it.

(25,048 posts)Why are you so cynical?
Sympthsical
(10,969 posts)When you're around the internet long enough, you get a nose for the obvious made up story. It's like watching a child lie.
If I insult someone so hard and so relentlessly that they're crying in public, I am sharing what insults I used. I'd also probably get kicked out of the store. There'd at least be surrounding commentary.
Someone with "RESIST!" in their profile (i.e. looking for attention from fellow partisans on Twitter) meets a perfect stereotype of the enemy du jour. That other party does the perfectly stereotypical thing we expect of them (no mask, sheep sound). And then our protagonist, who is super awesome, let land a devastating riposte, perfectly articulated and spoken, until the enemy fled the field, vanquished with no hope of recovery.
They're common trade on the internet. I love them, because they're so clearly made up for attention.
What probably happened is maybe this person saw someone without a mask. Maybe - maybe - thought they got a dirty look. Bought their stuff. And during the drive home they concocted this fantasy story about what they wanted to happen in the encounter. Got home. And boom, there it is.
Receive appropriate applause.
My favorite ending to these stories is when the encounter is over, and then some random character in the background silently gives our protagonist a knowing nod of agreement and solidarity.
They're great. But yeah, 99% of the time, these stories ain't happening in real life. Is the teller the perfect hero with the perfect reaction that perfectly fits your political worldview, and you wish you had thought to do that to someone? Yeah, they wish they had done it, too. That's why we got the creative writing session.

(3,921 posts)that is often also posted online. We do in fact live in a very divided society and these type of events happen daily.
You seem to be spinning a right-wing narrative that these events are hoaxes or false flags.
Sympthsical
(10,969 posts)First off, can we stop with the "right-wing" stuff any time someone says something that's disagreed with? Words have meaning. I don't limit my enjoyment of these stories to one part of the political spectrum. Right-wingers do it, too. Narratives about that one time where they totally owned a lib (who is invariably from a city somewhere and weird in appearance in some way).
It's not a Left/Right thing. It's a social media thing. "Look at me, guys. Look how awesome I am!"
There are crazy instances. Such are humans. But this story hits all the marks of a George Costanza fantasy. "Jerk store!"

(200 posts)I'm a 70-yer-old with a serious heart condition and my bride is a cancer survivor. You bet we wear masks.
After a week where my wife fell and broke her leg, and I got sick with severe bronchitis, I was in a supermarket trying to keep us in supplies when the maskless Trumpette behind me started making stupid sounds. Operating on so little sleep, I had zero patience and zero fucks to give. I could feel myself going purple in the face as I turned to him an said quietly, but shaking with rage, "Pal, after the week I've had, you are taking your life in your hands."
Typical Trump bucket, he cowarded out and ran off.
