Another tragic "family persecuted just because conservative" story

1. Father takes boy gun shopping
2. Teacher discovers boy searching for ammo online
3. Concerned school reaches out to parents; parents do not respond to school; mother texts boy "LOL ... you have to learn to not get caught"
4. Boy, with gun in backpack, writes notes about "blood everywhere" and is called to office for meeting but allowed to return to class
5. Boy kills others
6. Student arrested for murder just because parents are conservative!
7. Parents charged just because they are conservative!
8. Parents skip arraignment, withdraw $4K from ATM, hide in commercial building basement
9. Parents arrested just because they are conservative!

Have you ever heard about anything so grossly unfair?

was because neither parent wanted to take the kid home, so the school was used as the parent's dumping ground.

School officials should have expelled him, then the parents would have been forced to deal with it.

The kid probably would have reached in his backpack, pulled out the gun, and started his murderous rage right there.

I wonder why no one, either school officials or the parents, didn't search the kid's backpack during or after their little talk? Of course school officials had no idea his parents had purchased him a handgun for Christmas. The parents apparently didn't give a shit if he brought it to school.

Nothing says, "Happy Birthday, Jesus", like a brand new handgun as a gift for your underage kid. 🎅

Nothing could be simpler for the parents, their attitude was essentially "who cares, it's someone else's problem now."

The school is more problematic. I don't think expulsion would have stopped this, his parents would have just left him at home, and unless it's a closed campus with secure entry points that require id he'd have just walked right on to campus to start his rampage. The only possible difference would be that maybe a police officer or school administrator would have seen him and been the first to die. My wife (a school teacher) says basically if parents choose to ignore guidelines there is not much the teachers or administration can do. However, I'm pretty sure they could legally search his backpack.

Literally on everything they touch. I think the schools error was not searching him, honestly. I swear it's policy at virtually every school. I feel like they erred on "oh they're just a nice conservative family and their boy is just stressed" type of thing.

First off, it is TOTALLY the fault of the kid who pulled the trigger and the parents who bought him the gun, but as a former teacher, the school absolutely should have searched his locker and backpack. They had the legal authority to do so and the warning signs were blaring. I don't know how the administrators will live with this.

but junior high and high school brought with it the delight of lockers

both my jr high & high school would do random locker checks (like the "pop quiz" only it was "pop locker check&quot . the kids were told to go stand and wait by their lockers and various school employees would go down the line, tell you to open your locker, and go through it.

that was early/mid 70s. they were looking for dope & such.

i had forgotten all about that crap until i was talking to my kid the other day, telling her what happened in michigan. then i asked her if the kids were ever getting locker checks when she was in school. (she's in her thirties now btw.) she told me "no, and i never heard of such a thing."

lol. i wonder if all the other parents my age had forgotten about that weird part of public school and thereby never told their kids about it, or asked about it.

but it was a real thing. (ah... it was the 70s)

time the school had done it. Over the speakers we were all told to stay in class and a police dog even walked up and down the rows of desks. It was a lock down for a drug bust. This was in a nice Philly suburb too. When we could go to our next class I heard that my sister's locker was tagged and locked. I got on the phone and called my mom who dropped dropped everything and came to school so that they couldn't plant anything. The only thing in the locker that smelled was a salami sandwich.

You wonder why they didn't. I have a hard time believing they wouldn't have searched the backpack of a kid who was searching for Ammo. The school didn't know he had a gun, but, and I apologize for profiling the parents here, they certainly present as hardcore RWNJ so I would assume they probably own a gun(s) and probably don't bother to secure it properly. Maybe they've been sued for over reach in the past, or as is more likely the administrators share enough political and philosophical affiliation that the alarms that should have been going off didn't.

for a number of years and participated in a number of backpack searches for drugs. There had to be a second adult in the room so that no accusations could be made about what and how something was found. I do know that any disciplinary actions cannot be made public due to privacy issues so if this student did have anything in his file, it will be difficult to find out what the issues were. In a school of around 1800 students, if the student didn't have any discipline issues, the administrators wouldn't have any red flags to alert them. This is a very complicated situation especially since I don't know the community standards regarding guns but I did hear one person who grew up in Michigan state that the first day of hunting season was a non-school day as many students participated in hunting. The gun culture may be part of the issue here. Also, remember, the public really has no idea about the conversations that took place with the administrators and parents. The administrators and staff cannot make any public statements and the parents have been silent.

There's nothing, not a single word the prosecution can do, to pull that back. The attorney should've talked to the police chief if she really had contact with her clients (but we know she didn't, because the police chief would've happily said "well where are they, we'll come and get 'em real quick!&quot .

Michigan school shooting suspect's parents plead not guilty

After an hours-long manhunt, the Michigan school shooting suspect's parents were arrested early Saturday in Detroit after failing to show up for a Friday arraignment.
They pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter charges during an arraignment Saturday.

The 15-year-old suspect accused of killing four students in an Oxford, Michigan, school was charged – as an adult – with four counts of first-degree murder and terrorism, among other charges.

more than once. Stolen money, insulting anonymous notes (needed handwriting samples for that one, even the Vice Prin. worked on that one with me), missing/stolen lunches, etc. were cause for the searches. After the searches we built our case then notified the parents. That is when the BS started. Parents are a huge problem these days. They all think their kid walks on water and is as innocent as a lamb, even when you present tons of evidence/documentation, etc. They also threaten the school constantly if their personal demands aren't met immediately. Often they threaten with lawsuits in mind. Teaching is a nightmare.

If some person gave them access prior to the announcement of their indictment, then that person likely knew (or had reason to suspect) that they were there once the announcement was made. If they were permitted to hide there after that point, then isn't that aiding & abetting in its own right?

If I grant you access to a property under my control and it's later made public that you're fleeing from indictment, have I any obligation to report your whereabouts if they're known to me?
