Beto came close to kicking' Teddy C-ruz's ass. What would happen if instead of liberals bashing Texas, they just started moving here in droves? Bringing their liberal friends and family --maybe having some kids. Property prices are pretty reasonable in Texas and no state income tax. Some of the schools are actually excellent. Just think what an influx of libs could do this state. Could be a great contribution to democracy and it wouldn't be so lonely for the rest of us red state libs. Just think...if Texas turned blue. OH! What we could do! There goes the electoral college right wingers!

Texasa will go blue when Democrats convince moderates (including Hispanic voters) to support them.

(2,962 posts)We had old school voting machines with curtains.
At the end of the day my father would call out the votes.
We knew who carried the precinct.
The older voters were hard core democrats.
Texas was pretty much Republican by the 1980's.
I moved here in 1982. County government was pretty much solid Republican and I live in San Antonio, which is pretty blue.
There was probably a transition period when southern Dems held on awhile, but when I got here everyone who had real power were Republican. We had a Democratic Governor for one term in the 80's. Ann Richards managed to get in a term in the 90s. However, there was really any long term progress.
Preston Smith 1969-1973 was a racist SOB. He was a Democrat. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Preston_Smith_(governor)

(63,903 posts)in the summer. We had paved roads, highways. But just over the line in OK we had lots of dirt roads. This was before Eisenhower's highway system. Some states had paved highways and some only had a few. TX was so big, of course, this was a huge push in the right direction for commerce.

(53,031 posts)It's a weak governor state. The Lt Governor actually has more power. That according to the late, great Molly Ivins.
We had Lt. Gov. Bill Hobby for 18 years.

(7,627 posts)If Texas does turn blue during presidential elections this makes it mathematically impossible for the gop to win. It's their biggest electoral vote getter, the equivalent of California for us.
