DeSantis will run for President. He has just told us all that he would have no issues using troops against our own citizens. When they tell you who they are .f*^king listen!

(46,146 posts)Since DeSatan is killing people in his own state, of course he'd have no problem with killing even more people.

Duties
The purpose of the state defense forces, including the FSG, was to fulfil the National Guard's state obligations. This included guarding infrastructure, protecting against sabotage, calming riots, or aiding law enforcement. Although the mainland United States was never invaded during World War II, state defenses would have shared responsibility with the federal military and National Guard in defending American territory had an invasion occurred.

Whether Biden might be able to stop him or not, I'm getting the hell out of this state next year. I'm not sure where I can go because it just might be dangerous for any liberal in any battleground states.
Call me paranoid, but I'd rather be a wrong pessimist than a wrong optimist.
My theory: the real reason DeSantis is doing this militia guard thing is so his state can be a harbor for other militias who'd rally around Trump eventually.

(13,480 posts)This months issue of The Atlantic magazine has an article that is sobering in its description of how authoritarian regimes stay in power. The article starts with the Belarus election, where a democratic candidate won but had to flee to another country to escape imprisonment and possible death. The dictator in power, Aleksandr Lukashenko, refused to recognize the results of the electionsound familiar? Aided by Russia, he jailed and tortured protesters, most of whom are still jailed today.
Our own country is in danger from the forces that care more about global wealth and power than democracy. It is no accident that Trump aligned himself with authoritarians and tried to end our alliances with other democracies. The question we should be asking is why the Republican Party has done the same by aligning itself with Trump. Republican leaders recently stated that they would have no policies until 2024, presumably so that Trump can decide what the party should stand for. We truly are living in dangerous times because many voters are oblivious to what the Republican Party is trying to accomplishthe total overthrow of democracy and the installation of an authoritarian ruler.
The dangers to our democracy lie within, but we seem unable or unwilling to do much about it. We know that special interests here use any means necessary to protect their interests and the excessive wealth and power they represent. These are not people who care about democracy; they are people who use the global economic system to grow their wealth and power, which is what allows them to ignore laws and operate with impunity within their power structure. It is naive to believe that people like this are motivated to preserve democracy. I think of the Koch family, the Mercers, Zuckerberg, and others who actively promote the divisions within our country because such divisions distract voters and send them to the polls to vote for people who have been bought through campaign donations to pass laws solely for the oligarchs.

Anyway, it is to say that the populace is primed to believe all is lost, and overacting, emotionally, and violently is not undue. Because, it's what they believe is all they have left to elicit effectively.

This video apparently passes muster. Perhaps because of no images?
Age restricted to hide American history from children who need to know it. I don't join YouTube so I don't know what its content is.
