... FOX-News would blame it on the Democrats, CNN would point to Biden's low approval ratings as a reason for the carnage, Marjorie Taylor-Greene would reiterate her Jewish Space laser theories, the NRA would insist that a few good
men with guns could have avoided the attack, and Trump would explain how he would have single-handedly - unarmed and despite his debilitating bone-spurs - rendered the attackers as impotent as his flaccid dick.

Thanks for pointing that out. We wouldn't want the Republicans to be blamed for anything.

(16,689 posts)Many simply don't care at all anymore about anyone except themselves and "loved ones." Can't even put on a fucking mask to protect themselves or others. Zero shared sacrifice. You can bet the gas/food hoarding that an attack would lead to, would get violent real fast and they would lose their collective Q-Anon MAGAT brains and start looting and shooting.
And your predictions are all totally plausible.

(47,236 posts)This is unlike anything I've ever seen in the real world and it seems to be accelerating at an alarming rate. It is like some kind of mass psychosis and it is as infectious as the coronavirus, probably more.

(6,443 posts)It really is appalling when you think of the contrast between the rancid crop of sociopathic cretins that form the core of todays neoConfederate/neo fascist Republican Party and that generation who was challenged by Pearl Harbor to join humanitys struggle for survival against the menace to humanity the Axis powers represented. That generation who answered the call and rose to the challenge possessed what I consider to be true patriotism, which is rooted in the fundamental principle of human civilization that requires each of us to provide for the general welfare and to be concerned for the welfare of our fellow human beings. That generation made tremendous sacrifices, both in terms of their lives, their battle ravaged bodies and minds, and, for all those who participated in the war effort here at home, by denying themselves basic essentials of daily life like gasoline and food staples, and doing community service like scrap metal drives, collecting food and clothing etc. for FIVE LONG YEARS so that the fascist menace to humanity could be crushed. What was all the more impressive was that many of those doing the sacrificing, like black and native Americans, were groups this country had long denied basic human rights to. Yet, despite their inexcusably despicable treatment, they answered that countrys call to service, which is about as noble an act of sacrifice as there is.
In stark, repellent contrast, the goose stepping group of neofascists that comprise the current base of the GOP, emphasis on base, are so twistedly selfish, not only are they unwilling to make even the most minimal sacrifice to protect the health and welfare of their fellow human beings, like wearing a mask or getting a free vaccine, they instead mount maniacal frenzied efforts to block our countrys efforts to conquer the pandemic, and they thereby abet the needless death and suffering of their fellow human beings. They have abhorrently become the very embodiment of the ideological malignancy threatening humanitys survival we were fighting so heroically to eliminate after Pearl Harbor.
Thus, we owe a tremendous debt to those who died that morning 80 years ago, and in the long years after, as well as to all those who made sacrifices, of and in, their own lives, which we can pay by continuing their fight. That means committing ourselves to reestablishing the bedrock principle that the freedom for which we claim America stands, encompasses the fundamental responsibility for each person in this country to take care of one another and protect the general welfare of all. Only by doing that can the blessings of liberty be truly and completely enjoyed by each and every person.

(6,443 posts)However, as has always been the case, by their deeds ye shall know them. Since the time of Raygun the policies they champion and practice have all been demonstrably destructive to the general welfare of our people, making rank greed and selfishness paramount virtues in order to aggregate political power in the hands of those who benefit most by it. This ever deepening vortex of corrosive policy rot has led to the weakening of the basic pillars of our democracy such that many people question whether it can still function, as they perceive, correctly in many instances, that the basic legal protections and policies that were deliberately crafted by Democrats to benefit the country as a whole have been eviscerated by this gang of criminals. I can think of no greater act of betrayal to your country then destroying it from within in an insatiable lust for filthy lucre and anti democratic aggregation of absolute political power to acquire and protect more of the same. This internal betrayal of We The People then predictably and inevitably led to the betrayal of our country to a foreign nation when Agent Orange openly solicited and received help from a foreign dictator to gain the Presidency and then proceeded to betray our interests further by acting as his puppet for four reprehensible years. A measure of how much the modern GOP are true traitors to our democracy is the fact that not only did they not condemn these actions by Agent Orange they openly embraced them and eagerly hopped on the Putin money/gravy train. Their stench permeates and befouls every square centimeter of the soil so many true patriots of all races, creeds and nationalities sacrificed to defend so that it could yield a more fruitful bounty of democracy for every person, not just the would be petty tyrants and mammon slaves who the modern Rethuglicans have become.

(6,443 posts)We, meaning I and you and everyone similarly concerned, needs to demand that of the MSM and talk repeatedly to any news outlet or opinion page or person that we can reach, in addition to stressing the long list of demonstrable accomplishments for the well-being of our democracy and the American people the Biden Administration and Democrats in Congress have already achieved and the things they will achieve if given the continued opportunity to do so.

(27,045 posts)and go through a lot of online newspaper archives and am struck at the public response from Pearl Harbor all through the war. Guys rushed to enlist and everyone pulled together through the war years with rationing (food and other goods), never complaining. When it was all over and the surviving GIs came home there were huge public welcome events filling the streets and general jubilation and community spirit. It's such a contrast to today's political polarization.
