Yes... Obama brought out the racism that was always there but way more hidden

and

Since Ronny Raygun, the GQPers have felt like they OWN the Presidency. Not a single Democrat that has either run for President or won the Presidency (Clinton, Obama, Biden) has been recognized as legitimate or even "American" by the GQP.

who it was. In fact that was part of the reason for the obstruction. Obama was pretty good and could have been more popular. He was about as moderate of a Democrat as they were ever going to see in office. But the next one might not be so nice. That's what they were afraid of. A black man could not be seen to be successful as President, and they could not be seen taking any direction from him.

I used to ask the anti-Obama crowd what their issue with him was. What was their main policy beef. They tried the Obama Care bullshit. So I would ask them what specifically about the Affordable Care Act did they not like. They were hard pressed to come up with a specific answer.

The big problem that white people had with Obama was that he was smarter, classier and way cooler than they were.

And sometimes when I'm feeling it, someone will say something about Obama and I'll remind them that he is living a far better life than they are. I sometimes tell them that about Hillary as well.

going on for years. They refuse to accept that Democrats have the right to govern if they win elections. They came after Clinton with a vengeance-the intention was to impeach and convict or force Clinton to resign...they attacked Pres. Obama and refused to work with him even when he dangled SS reforms-policies they had fought wanted for decades...like chained CPI.

They threatened to do the same to Hillary if she had won and are now attacking Biden fervently. Racism is a byproduct of the decades they refused to recognize our right to govern if and when we win elections... Racism it is not the reason for their behavior. They crave absolute power and have and will continue to come after any Democratic president.

While the racism is true I don't believe that is at all the whole reason, it's the religion of right wing Conservatism. They basically called Bill Clinton a draft dodging communist while running and continued those attacks during his time in office.

John Kerry? Didn't even win and they slandered him to hell and back.

Racism is a real issue, but when we treat it as the ONLY (or even main) reason Republicans are on attack we fail to confront the real hatred at the point of attack and that is "Non Conservatism", I won't even say Liberals, because they despise moderates as well. Minorities have generally been more Liberal, thus it's guilt by association.

The hatred for "Liberal" is strong with the far right and anyone NOT like them is a de facto Liberal.

did try to damage President Clinton, as well as the First Lady. And they had the support of their machine. Yet with President Obama, there was a new, extremely dangerous level of hatred -- rooted largely in racism -- that arose in segments of white America. It was known as the tea party. Republican operatives believed they could capitalize on the tea party, milking them for votes. Thus, the republican party adopted the tea party. What they did not recognize is that the tea party had siblings that shared their nest -- militia and KKK-types -- that were less interested in supporting the republican party than re-making it in their own image. And that is exactly where we are today.

This has happened before.

The GOP has had the white working class snookered into believing that the middle class and higher's interests are in their best interest. It's why the AFL CIO didn't have riders regarding discrimination decades ago.

People forget that in 1964 - the CRA/VRA were really dangerous concepts/things to do get done. They forget MLK was hated by a large number of people in this country when he died. Shit - Tulsa was an infliction against black folks doing better than white folks.

The Obama Admin triggered a lot of white folks - to include Donald who is an avowed racist in conduct. That rich, successful black man 'stepped on him' so he had to go into an incandescent rage.

Let's not gild the lily - this move to American Fascism is to stem the tide of success of non white folks.

I've always said - you could have a socialized health care system on par with Europe's countries who lead in this and get every white working class Republican onboard . . .

As long as it was a set aside for white people. They are fine with taxing me - a black woman - with a bill of 70K last year - as long as it is taking bread off my table and 'paying them off' and thanking them for being pieces of shit racists.

their lives in a racist society too comfortable to re-examine, even in the face of the country's changing demographics.

As the article suggests, there were many Americans who were so shocked by the Presidency being won and successfully held for eight years by a black man (and they could only relate to Obama in terms of the color of his skin), that they found it preferable to literally deny reality than to adjust to it. It was an existential shock to their entire understanding of the society they live in and their role in it. No wonder so many went off the deep end.

I believe the "backlash" then continued with the prospect of a woman President. Too much change too fast for the white male supremacists.
