White privilege on steroids?

Text

A white man makes dozens of homemade bombs and plants three of them at a BLM rally — but luckily the bombs are discovered before they can kill anyone.

For doing that he gets...zero prison time? Just probation?

Where anything resembling CRT is actually referred to, however eliptically.

Clearly far more is needed there and overdue in primary education.

"He used up to five bags of heroin a day, had been an inpatient at a Florida abuse clinic in February 2019 and was receiving vivitrol injections as recently as May 2020. In addition, she said, his ex-wife reported that she found empty stamp bags and alcohol bottles in their house prior to his arrest.

Michanowicz planted a backpack filled with Molotov cocktails near PNC Plaza on May 31, 2020, during the Downtown protests over the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis."

Small point of fact, vivitrol is naltrexone, which is very similar in action to the better-known Naloxone, the stuff that wakes you from an overdose. The injections are TIME-RELEASE and last for weeks to block the effects of opioids (i.e. you can't get high on them with naltrexone in your system). You are also never given naltrexone in a therapeutic capacity until you are completely CLEAN of opioids.

Given the coincidence of 'vivitrol shots in May', and 'setting bombs in May' ... it's very unlikely this guy was high on dope when he planted the explosives.

And if you read further down in the same article, it wasn't just a bag full of 'molotov cocktails' as you or I would interpret that statement.

No white privilege, eh?

OCD, and many other conditions are rightly understood to be illnesses rather than moral issues , and therefore are appropriate to consider when determining guilt or innocence.

But that doesn't address the fact that people who suffer from these conditions are capable of doing a lot of damage. And spciety needs to be protected from that damage. And right now (largely thanks to St. Ronnie) there is no where to put them to prevent their doing damage except in prison.

I know very well that that is a tough pill to swallow. But it's also one society needs to admit and there needs to be discussion.

I should also note that by no means do I think everyone with these or similar conditions should be restrained. I'm thinking only of people who have already demonstrated a propensity for dangerous actions on account of the condition. Many with the same conditions are not dangerous to anyone but themselves.

I would be amenable to cutting a person some slack if s/he was high off their tree on opioids and did something stupid/dangerous.

But my point here is ... not only was he almost certainly NOT (time-release naloxone is essentially the equivalent of Antabuse, if you're familiar ... but for opioid users), but also, this was by no means a spur of the moment 'bad decision because he was loaded' type of scenario. He built these friggin' explosives, that took time and planning and some degree of research and skill.

On top of THAT, opioids are NOT meth or PCP or even booze. Active dope users are generally-speaking very sedate, they're not a particularly violence-inducing class of drug, with the ONE EXCEPTION ... of people getting violent for the express purpose of getting more dope (anywhere from shoplifting to purse-snatching to armed robbery). This was clearly ... not that.

Lastly, does anyone here think a black muslim heroin addict who leaves a bag of explosives near a MAGA rally is getting off with friggin PROBATION?

Outpatient works fine for most people. You’re only locked up if you’re a threat to yourself and others but the mentally Ill are actually more likely to be victims than perpetrators.

based on what he did. But in fairness, now that people getting photos taken for mug shots (and incidentally driver's licenses) are not allowed to have a natural expression but are told how to hold their faces, I am less likely to deduce anything from the picture.

My own driver's licence makes me look about 113, and while I am old, I am not that old.

Heinous dereliction of justice? No, I'm sure there was some Rittenhouse technicality that thoroughly exonerated his action calling for probation.

"grenades", at BLM rallies--I guess to hopefully get the protesters to pick up and throw these devices, cause injuries and chaos, make them look bad? What a sick manipulative fuck. Being a drug abuser wouldn't seem to have much to do with the willingness to go through the time and effort to cook up and execute an evil scheme like that--what bullshit.
