We just lost a Governors race because of their CRT messaging, which tells me they'll be hammering hard
on CRT in the midterms. Recent article in my KS newspaper stated no school in Kansas teaches it, but the
repugs here are attempting to bring it front and center as if we need to deal with it right now.
So lets just agree with them that it's a problem that needs to be dealt with, with one caveat, we need to be
teaching CTS instead. That being Critical Thinking Skills. We take away their message and replace it with
something which should be required in schools.
They'll find a way to badmouth CTS but I suspect it'll just prove they have no CTS to independent voters.
If they raise a big stink about not teaching CTS, we'll be asking why they want to keep people stupid.
BTW, I'm not against CRT, but "acting" like we Ds are also concerned about it could neutralize one of their
talking points and make them explain why they're against CTS.

(1,044 posts)As far as critical thinking skills? That ship has sailed a long time ago. Youre looking for subtlety that just isnt there.

(37,931 posts)They're the ones working hard for Soviet-style airbrushing of Conservatively Incorrect facts out of the picture. Say so, loudly and repeatedly.
Preferably by turning their own buzzwords against them.
And roll them up like a newspaper and smack "journalists" on the nose with them every time they soft-pedal or both-sides Republican extremist rhetoric.

(13,571 posts)are the skills required to succeed in a global economy. Today, these skills are only attained in college. The majority of Repubics see a formal education as a negative. No wonder TFG said he loves the poorly educated.
Getting a formal education requires a sense of deferred gratification. Usually toddlers and adolescents don't have a sense of deferred gratification. Republicans are like the spoiled kids in Willie Wonka.

(53,291 posts)point out that CRT is a course sometimes taught in law school. It's not even mentioned to the students right wing nuts are pretending to care about.

(5,633 posts)But the right has used the acronym to seize upon actual schoolwork and coursework that's taught throughout our educational system. It's not really that big of change to go from slavery was bad, to slavery was fucking bad and white people, some of whom might be your ancestors, did it.
The Repubs are seizing upon the assignment of blame for slavery to them and their children. Whether it's true or not, apparently a lot of folks in Virginia thought that, and McAuliffe didn't help with his "I don't think parents should be telling schools what to teach" moment.
This is just the initial conflicts of the war though. The actual war is going to be fought when talk of reparations gets more mainstream and closer to reality.

somebody told them all they have to do is stay white til they die. because they know- it sucks to be anything but white in this country.
the only way to crack the cycle of progress> backlash is to be ready, and fight on through the backlash.

(5,633 posts)In any other governor's election in any other state, that's a guaranteed win and a secure governor's seat.
The problem was Youngkin got 550k more votes than Gillespie did in 2018. That's not a base problem. That's a Repubs crushed us in new turnout problem.
The NYMag article glosses over the increase in turnout, and goes to show that we can no longer rely on high turnout to guarantee wins in elections.

(93,471 posts)... to win in 22, we need people motivated to vote like in 2020.
The thought of Putin's Whore being speaker of the house should bring people to the ballot box

(71,491 posts)the very few colleges that actually have such courses. It was taught at the graduate level. Don't condemn it and don't praise it...move on to important local issues...we need to try to win on local issues in the midterms. I will say the fact that no GOP's voted for the infrastructure bill can and should be used against them. We can also hopefully run on the BBB bill congress needs to make a deal. CRT is akin to defunding the police...we can't allow it to hijack the election for the right.

(29,822 posts)I cant believe the 2 were compared as one is just a college course while the other is actually a policy proposal.
Reacting to reactionaries is a bad look for the party imo. How many people need to be alienated to win over how many of the others?

JFC it worked for me and all of my liberal friends. You put a name on it and it becomes something to rail against. To Christians this SHOULD be Jesus message. To others it is called being nice, ethical, moral, decent.
Why do we engage in these stupid fights that conservatives prop up for us.
