You can decide for yourself if it bothers you or not.
Surfing through DU I will see a title that interests me and when I click on it to open it the only thing there is a link to some story.
Nothing else.
Just a link.
For some reason I am seeing more the past week.
In my humble opinion I would appreciate more info on what is beyond the link.

(132,210 posts)the 4 paragraph out-take and put it up. Then I go and get the link and put it up after. Not exactly what you are talking about but I wanted to clarify my posting habits have changed in the last few weeks. Instead of resolving it just keeps getting more and more complicated for me to post stories. It has been harder to render for a while.

And yeah, I agree with your OP and figure it's because more people are using phones and it's harder to copy/paste.

By rendering I think he means how the site is displayed on his device.
DU renders differently on my Windows machine, on my Kindle Fire and on my sndroid phone.

(113,967 posts)For someone to merely post a link without comment just seems so inconsiderate.
Not that I have anything against the posters, but I likewise don't want my time wasted with posts that only include an embedded video. I do not have time to watch 5-10 minutes of video for something that could be conveyed by two seconds reading a short post--a few sentences along with the video for those who wish to view. I just find posting a link or video sans any comments or explanation about the content to be beyond frustrating.
I know this may be a difficult issue going forward, but I do think it is going to diminish DU for many if we can't find a middle ground. To me, it has the potential of turning the site into one big "clickbait."
By the way (and this is more for our younger posters, but it can impact us all): your writing abilities and potential to make an important point in either written or verbal form require practice and EXERCISE to develop and maintain. So, if all you ever do is short (and often cryptic) short tweets or video-sharing, you won't develop/maintain those skills. Whether or not you think that it to be important now, it will impact your options career-wise. I know this smacks of "Mr. Wilson griping," but it is true. Ask any employer, professional who takes on interns, or HR manager if writing/expression skills have not been on the decline the past two decades. DU can be a good way to "exercise" those skills. Please do.

(60,320 posts)(though I have zero entries in my Ignore)
It would take them about 30 seconds to type a summary that hits the key point(s).
Looking at the video forum, I see view totals from 250 to over 4,000 (richly deserved for Dolly Parton).
First, they would get even more views with decent summaries.
Second, if it takes a DU member say an average of 30 seconds of viewing a clip to decide whether to watch the whole thing or not, that is an average of say 500 viewers x 1/2 minute = 250 minutes = over 4 hours.
The narcissistic dump-and-go Original Posters think their 30 seconds is more valuable than 4 hours of DU time. Who are they posting for? DU or themselves?

Providing nothing more than a link at least gives people a heads-up that something is headed their way.

(4,981 posts)Experiencing weird constant refreshing on the site?
On my apple phone, using safari, I notice a lot of refreshing. It only seems to happen on DU. After the site refreshes 2-3 times, I usually get a message in Safari saying it cant display the webpage.
So I usually just wait to read DU when I get back to my tablet.

(9,624 posts)1. i suggest to install the app called Ka Block
This will stop certain Javascript issues.
2. additional issues include more Javascript
3. automatic refresh
4. Safari itself
if still trouble after Ka Block is installed, time for Plans B and C

But that's why we have powerful web safety software (firewall, anti-virus, etc.) on our computers.....

(57,757 posts)Raw Story because it operates on theft of articles from other publications. In every case, the poster could go to the direct source but chooses not to.
Political Wire, Political Report, and the Palmer Report. The first also steals, but like the following two posts versions of stories that Democrats want to believe. It's unreliable and its purpose is to make Democrats feel good. I don't need my emotions validated; I want news.
The Daily Mail is a fucking tabloid folks.
