Obama's lumping together of Navy ships with "horses and bayonets" could harm him in VA

Republicans say Obama's lumping together of Navy ships with "horses and bayonets" could harm him in the key battleground of Virginia, where some of the Navy's largest shipbuilding and repair operations are based. Obama and Romney have both been battling fiercely for votes in the southeastern part of the state, where communities in Newport News, Norfolk and Portsmouth are largely sustained by Navy operations.

Republicans immediately latched onto the comment on Twitter, saying it showed Obama would be open to cutting military jobs in the commonwealth.

What universe are those people in? Are they pretending to be stupid or what?

It's amazing how much effort they put into not getting tossed out, as though there is some kind of tournament for seeing how long they can last here.

how conservative voters might respond to something the President said during the debate? It is not only adult and rational to discuss how the President "played in Poughkeepsie", but to accept that some might read more into a statement than was said. The value of such a discussion, for Democrats and liberals who support the President, would be to identify that a potential problem exists in a particular area and work to counter the misconception before election day.

This is a discussion board, not an echo chamber. Please don't try to make it one.

response was spot on. You can't compare the 1916 U.S. Navy to the 2012 U.S. Navy and Navy people in Virginia would agree with that.

built in Newport News, Virginia I highly doubt there was any problem with his comments in Virginia:

All ten Nimitz-class nuclear-powered aircraft carriers:
USS Nimitz (CVN-68), launched in 1972
USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69), launched in 1975
USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70), launched in 1980
USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71), launched in 1984
USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72), launched in 1988
USS George Washington (CVN-73), launched in 1990
USS John C. Stennis (CVN-74), launched in 1993
USS Harry S. Truman (CVN-75), launched in 1996
USS Ronald Reagan (CVN-76), launched in 2001
USS George H.W. Bush (CVN-77), launched in 2006
Gerald R. Ford-class nuclear-powered aircraft carriers:
USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78) NOTE: Under Construction
USS John F. Kennedy (CVN-79) NOTE: Under Construction
Los Angeles-class nuclear-powered submarines
Virginia-class nuclear-powered submarines
Virginia-class nuclear-powered cruisers

Rather than it being a problem, the President's point to Romney was about the use of aircraft carriers and submarines being the way to go and, again, they are built in Virginia.

Geez, they really are beyond stupid, aren't they!
