Good Old Peg just called out our MVP as an uppity woman that should know her place. She should be chastened and humbled. Bite me.

(97,626 posts)The contrast with those to pictures. Kamala, so alive and full of hope and Peg's face looks cadaverous with the hate in her soul.
PS. I am not being ageist here, just stating the clear facts.

(38,054 posts)Radiance vs Failure. Noonan wishes she could be the VP. She wishes she could have rose to that level.

(19,745 posts)the Vice President of our Country is confident, more than capable, intelligent, and accomplished. Absolutely no call for chastened and humbled, VP should be honored and revered.
Next Miss Know Nothing Noonan will call for our VP to be paid 60 cents on the dollar to her white, male predecessors.
Fuck out of touch, scared, jealous Miss Noonan.

(17,821 posts)I thought she was middle-aged back when I was a kid. She must be 100 now! I think it's time for Peggy to humble herself and be chastened and fucking retire already. Do some gardening, old lady!

(17,821 posts)I guess she always dressed very conservatively, so I thought she was older. Her ideas probably made her seem older, too. She was more conservative than my grandma, who was born in 1916. Oh well, guess she can have cocktails with Andrea Mitchell and the rest of the people who refuse to retire. As long as people are paying them, I guess.

(4,598 posts)Yeah, we know where that's coming from.
There's a deep subconscious sense of inferiority in rich privileged people. They have a dim recognition that they could never have made it on their own, so seeing someone who didn't start out privileged and has achieved a lot makes them angry, and desirous of belittling them and making them feel undeserving.
That's what I think is going on here-- a rather vicious secret envy and resentment. And when you have power-- can get big media to interview you, say-- it comes out in this haughty way.

Most of the many hits are on Harris as Democrat and female, and I'm guessing historians and teachers will be using it for decades to illustrate attacks on female politicians. Of course, Noonan's blatant appeal to racism alone may have earned this prize an opening-paragraph mention in her eventual obituaries. She so deserves it.
Btw, I just looked and there's no annual Willie Horton award for all those competing for the year's most racist political offerings. Is there a competition under another title? If not, someone might want to start one.

(29,078 posts)Reminds me of them accusing President Obama of not being able to give speeches without reading from a teleprompter because evidently he wasn't smart enough to remember anything, and the one who said, "The business model, if you like, of the Democratic Party for the last fifteen years or so has been a failure. People sometimes don't see that because there was a charismatic individual named Barack Obama, who won the presidency in 2008 and 2012."
Assholes.
The voters knew. I knew he had it, both times. I knew.
The children knew. They loved him, trusted him.

(60,968 posts)She, of all people, knows that appearing optimistic, confident and joyful, is a huge plus in how people perceive a politician. Not to mention, what exactly is Harris supposed to be chastened and humbled by? For not solving issues that actually have not been solved since the Reagan years?
The comparison also should be to Mike Pence? What exactly were his accomplishments in his first year as VP??
Out of curiosity, I tried to find an article from late 2017 of Pence's accomplishments - and failed. I did find this summary done THREE years into his vice presidency. I know nothing of this Indiana source.
Here is the lead paragraph that summarizes what was thought:
In his first three years in office, Pence has struggled at times to find a successful role. From overseeing the ill-fated voter fraud commission (which was unable to find widespread instances of malfeasance at the polls) to failing as an emissary to Capitol Hill, the vice president has mostly fashioned himself as a hype man for Donald Trump, campaigning on his behalf. Pundits have even wondered whether he has outlived his usefulness, speculating that the president may replace Pence with someone like former ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley or even Trumps own daughter Ivanka. Commentators cycle between calling Pence the shadow president and a useful idiot.
The three areas they credit him with doing anything are staffing the government - including many Hoosiers, he took the lead on rebuilding the space program (at that point deadlocked in Congress), and raising money for 2020. Note the latter is NOT related to helping the country.
Now, think of Pence's predecessors, no one ever questioned the value of Biden, Cheney, Gore, GHWB, or Mondale. The value of Quayle was the only one in that interval seen as poorly as Pence. (Agnew was in a class of his own)
Back to Harris, one year is far to early to evaluate, but I would guess that many of these stories are partisan efforts to frame Harris negatively because she will at some point very likely be the Democratic nominee for President.
