On my way home from church (on Rt. 141), President Biden's motorcade just passed by heading south. At first, I was thankful that they hadn't shut down 141 in both directions. Then I was struck (again) by how nice it is to have a good man in the White House. It made my Sunday

(31,002 posts)I have a view of Route 141 at Rt52 It is an impressive array of vehicles. I always feel like standing at attention or saluting or something. I always smile.

There were motorcycles leading the way, then a parade of black SUVs, then a blacked-out small bus, then a bunch of State Troopers. I didn't see/hear the helicopters, but they're apparently around also.

(26,219 posts)A few years ago, I remembered being shocked when I heard how many vehicles are in a POTUS motorcade. And how much field medical accompanies that posse. It stuck me that they literally have a small army. Video isn't that good at showcasing the scope like a live view would give.

(6,347 posts)In the late 70s I was out on I-294, a toll road that was (at the time) the big loop through the western and southern burbs in Chicago.
Get to a toll booth ( I think it was Hinsdale for you locals) and the toll booth guy says to me wait here for just a second and leaves the gate down. I asked why and he said presidents motorcade is coming through from OHare. About 2 minutes later 3 stretch limos fly through the toll booths at speed. About a minute later the toll booth guy says ok
off ya go.
Hard to imagine security that lax by todays standards. Still - it was pretty cool.
Those were the days.
