(225 posts)true angel of our times. He actually cares, whereas the likes of two particular U.S. Senators (Manchin & Senema) are complete opposites of what this man stands for.

(7,638 posts)I didn't know much about Mayfield so I did a little research. I'm a bad person I guess because I would piss on a fire to save someone's home in Mayfield. I guess it's God's fury that tore up the Graves County Court House and, wait for it, CONFEDERATE MONUMENT.
And yes I'm petty and angry. But dammit we always are there with open arms when they need us, and then we wait for the obligatory knife in the back from them. Bless chef Andes, he's a better person than me.
A tidbit.
During and after Reconstruction, there was considerable white violence against blacks in the county. In one week in late December 1896, four black men were lynched in Mayfield. After Jim Stone was lynched, whites became fearful after hearing that blacks were arming to retaliate. They called for reinforcements from Fulton County, and fatally shot Will Suett, a young black man getting off the train. The large white mob killed two more African-American men before the violence ended. Whites also burned four houses of African Americans
