I was watching Nicolle Wallace's show and they did a commercial for Morning Joe and Joe was bellowing out the above quote.
Why?
Why do Democrats have to hold Republicans accountable??
Shouldn't Republicans be holding their own accountable?
Shouldn't Republicans be insisting that the DOJ hold the criminals accountable, regardless of Party?
The country needs the Republicans to wake up and get involved, or to borrow a phrase from Donald Trump, they won't have a country to save.
It's time for Republicans to stop looking to the Democrats to save this country and to get involved themselves.
The criminals are hiding behind the Republican Party. If there are Republicans that are concerned about our democracy and our country, they need to stand up at this time and stop depending on the Democrats alone to save this country.

Republicans are far more worried about a Christmas tree set alight than our entire nation burning to the ground....

Granted, the frustration is palpable and I agree with your sentiment and frustration. The media is framing this situation as the responsibility of the opposition party when the Republicans should be policing their own. The thing is that this is something like asking Police forces to investigate and kick out their bad "cops" or the military to deal with their own sexual abuse problems. It certainly should happen, but there is a vested interest internally to not hold members of their own group accountable, especially not in public.
Who do you think, among Republicans would take the lead in "holding Republicans accountable?" The leadership is complicit. McConnell is compromised beyond belief. McCarthy is a puppet of Trump and carrying water for the most extreme elements in his own party. People like Cheney (horrible in her own right) and Kinzinger are ostracized or on their way out because even dared point out the problem in the caucus. Peter Meijer is similarly under threat for trying to hold up to some kind of ethical standards.
The realistic answer is that there do not appear to be any Republicans who are able to or willing to hold their own accountable. Democracy does not appear to be as important to Republicans as is holding onto and gaining power over the government.
