She is 2 years old.
Tested positive this morning after waking with sniffles and a cough. Mom always tests them if there is a simple sign. We have all done the right thing from day 1 and still mask up when we leave home.
This is the first that has touched me and mine. I have known no one, not friends or family that have had COVID.
I am a bit shaken by all this.

(98,425 posts)Mom is trying to keep them apart as much as she can. Big sis is 5 and is a few days shy being fully vaxed with her second shot.
My sister delivered a HEPA filter today, last one Target had in stock.
Thanks.

(179,337 posts)She wasn't very sick with it, fortunately. Her mother and older sisters had it at the same time. I hope that your great niece gets over it quickly, and that no one else in the family gets it.

(13,090 posts)He seems to pick-up every contagion that comes through his day-care.
His parents have a supply of at home Covid tests but that does nothing to prevent the anti-vaxxers from endangering our children.
Best wishes for your great niece - and for all our children.

Stay strong, for the whole family.

(172,194 posts)That younger set have been the ones I have worried about since they have generally been ineligible or are borderline for being able to get a vaccine, with the 5 - 11 only recently approved. I know there are trials ongoing for the 6 months - 5 years old set. Pfizer is hoping to get data in and approval some time during early 2022 for the 2 - 5 set and later in the year for the infants (6 months) to toddlers (2 years) - https://fortune.com/2021/11/12/covid-vaccines-for-little-kids-under-5-pfizer-2022/ Moderna has similar trials ongoing - https://www.wpr.org/uw-madison-testing-covid-19-vaccine-children-6-months-4-years-old
Hope she only had a small viral load and recovers quickly.

(4,607 posts)...my grandkids have both had COVID twice--they are 5 and 8--we also have all done the right thing. I wouldn't even invite my mother in law for Thanksgiving because she's not vaccinated. Thank goodness they were both fine. Got their vaccines as soon as we were able. It's so scary that the Covidiots are putting the littlest ones at risk. I will keep you and your great niece in my thoughts.

(7,417 posts)We have 7 in the family testing positive. All vaxxed but the 1 yr old that got it at daycare.
Everyone is mostly symptom free. The 1 yr old has been in urgent care twice last week. Has strep too, also from daycare. Both caught from the same child who had both.
Even careful daycare is 1 big petre dish. Even worse if they are not careful.

(4,725 posts)I will keep her in my prayers, for a quick recovery and that no one else in the family catches it. Poor baby. Hoping she can get well, at home.
I know you all are stressed out, having a family member with covid. My brother and his family up in New York State, got Covid over the holidays, last year. His, son in law, caught it from a new employee, he'd just hired, and who wasn't forthcoming about attending unmasked parties. The families had Christmas together and within a week, everyone subsequently tested positive for the virus.
Long story short, his wife and youngest daughter (age 30) had mild cold like symptoms. My brother and his older daughter, who is married to the one who contracted Covid from his employee, had more fever, and a hacking cough. The grand children/grand nephews, did not get that sick. They were just more hectic and a little whiny, for a few days, then got back to normal.
I called or texted my brother, every day for about 2 weeks. The Public Health department, released him, his wife and youngest daughter from quarantine, after 10 days. He felt somewhat better, but said his energy was diminished, and he was still unable to taste food. Those symptoms lingered for 6 months.
When I found out they had contracted Covid I was so worried, as he and his wife are both 63. I am so grateful they are all okay and those eligible have since been vaccinated. I felt so powerless, watching from a distance. Blessings to you, and your loved ones.

(17,210 posts)I hope symptoms don't get worse and she recovers. I found out yesterday one of my friends tested positive. It was a break through case. She was vaxxed and boosted, masked publicly and social distanced and still got it. She thinks she got it when she had to take her husband to the hospital last week. She has the same symptoms as your great niece.

(365 posts)My granddaughter had COVID in August. She was 21 months old at the time. She just turned 2 last month. She got COVID from her un-vaccinated mother who went to Arizona to a bachelorette party and returned to Oregon having been exposed down there. 10 days later mother and baby were both sick. My granddaughter was fussy for a couple days but recovered quite rapidly. I hope this will be the case for your little one. My son also got COVID, even though he was vaccinated. He had to take care of the sick baby while he wife was sick. All are just fine now, so I wish the best for your family.
My sister got COVID in April of 2020. Her vaccinated daughter has had breakthrough COVID twice since August of this year. While my sister was taking care of her sick daughter and young sons in Tacoma, her husband back in Spokane came down with COVID, and he was also vaccinated. He teaches at a school in Idaho right on the Washington border. Idaho has a low vaccination rate, so I am surprised it took him that long to get sick. There have been probably a dozen people in my small neighborhood who have had COVID. My husband and I have both had our booster shots, but I feel like someday we will get some form of COVID.

(10,750 posts)2 year old had COVID in November. She was sick and hospitalized for a couple of days to be safe (her mom and dad stayed there with her). She's completely better now. Just snapped back very quickly.
This is anecdotal, I know, but I think the kids do better than old people like me. I will be thinking of your little one.
