Just another example of the Truly Gullible

So while FOX-News - and, by extension, the GOP - were telling everyone that the Capitol rioters were Antifa and BLM, why were they simultaneously telling Dear Leader to call off the dogs and tell them to go home?

If the insurrectionists were - as FOX-News and the Republicans would have it - anti-Trumpists, why would his calling for them to leave have any influence on them whatsoever?

And more importantly, why would he later make a statement that they were "very special people and he loved them"? Was that a come-to-Jesus moment where Trump decided to turn the other cheek, and embrace his enemies just like Christ would do?

It's just another example of how gullible Trump-humpers are - willing to believe that completely contradictory things can both be true at the same time.

But it's to be expected from people who yell you're a sheep! at people who are masked-and-vaccinated, while they're swilling down animal dewormer in order to protect themselves from a hoax.

I've said it before - the smartest thing the GOP has ever done is appealing to The Stupid. They don't ask questions, they don't have the intellectual capacity to reason things out - and their only real concern is how to treat their bruised-and-bleeding knuckles due to constantly dragging them on the ground.

They're the punchline to the old joke about the man who catches his wife in bed with her lover.

As the husband holds a gun to his own head ready to kill himself, he notices that his wife's lover is laughing hysterically. "I don't know why you're laughing," says the husband. "You're next!"

What I’m shaking my head about is that there is now ZERO doubt about how fake Fox News is. Faker than their tomato cage Christmas tree even. Oh I’m sure many of the cult will say they no longer watch Fox because it’s not extreme enough for them but they still watch it and listen to talk radio or Bannon.

It's not just the political things you're talking about. It's everyday things that involve ordinary actions of life. Which is why scams, particularly of the "I'm a Microsoft person and your computer is infected!" type are so successful.

People are not taught to question. More accurately, they are taught not to question. It starts with their childhood religion, where they're told over and over again "This is the TRUTH!! Believe nothing else!" It continues to school, where whatever the teacher says is considered to be gospel just barely behind what they learn in their church. Which wouldn't be a problem in a math class, but most other areas of study that is a problem. The "why??" that two-year olds are so rightly famous for gets totally stifled.

I have a good friend who is reasonably intelligent, but is very guilty of the sin of not asking questions. He all too often passes something along without double checking. It drives me crazy. Me, I'm skeptical of everything. Much of the time, including very often here on DU, someone will make a statement and I'll fact-check it. Perhaps half of the time here the statement is true, but the other half the poster is guilty of simply passing on what they've seen elsewhere without checking it.

We all have our comfort level. And for a huge percentage of people that comfort level involves being able to accept without question what they are told, especially if it comes from an authority figure. Alas, critical thinking is incredibly uncommon. I guess my comfort level is that of skepticism. I am a doubter. But I also like learning new things. So whenever I fact-check something I am sure is wrong, and it really is right, I have a mental high-five happen, because I've learned something new.

Another thing is that I am interested in almost everything. I read a great deal. About half of what I read is non fiction, the other half fiction. Honestly, I'm yet to come across anyone whose interests cover as wide a range. Example: I love science fiction and read a fair amount of it. What writing I've done (and I'm a slightly published s-f author) is invariably science fiction. But it's perhaps only 10 percent of what I read, simply because I'm interested in almost everything. Although I attend science fiction cons, I'm a bit of a misfit because I actually read so little in the field. Fortunately all those wonderful s-f people are very tolerant of people like me.

on the veracity of fiction and the fallacies in nonfiction. I pointed out that non fiction is one person's perception of the facts while fiction deals in Universal truths, using examples from the books we were reading.
It wasn't long before I was called into the dean's office because my students were questioning the professors in other courses they were taking. Essentially the students were putting professors on the spot by questioning the texts from other courses . Professors who couldn't explain conceptual thinking were pissed off at me also. The students loved it because they felt empowered by questioning authority. The rubes and dupes who believe Pox News are low hanging fruit for Murdoch's propaganda operation.
Remember when Pox won a case in court where the Court ruled they could bullshit their unwitting audience? Let that sink in.

The issue brought up in the OP is itself non political, even though many people would see it through a political lens.

What I talk about in my above post is likewise not political, and is true no matter where you are on the political spectrum. At least I think it is.

I also lived for many years in a place where my personal political opinions were not in concordance to those of that place, and so I learned to be very circumspect and non-political and non-partisan in everything I said. It's really a useful way to be, especially in our current over politicized world. Even though I now live where my beliefs are in line with those here.

Justice matters.

the Trumpers don't realize they are being shit upon by Fox News and the GQP. Fox tells them to not get vaccinated while it is company policy for them to be vaccinated, and they still don't get it that they are being lied to.

"The most common lie is that with which one lies to ones self. Lying to others is relatively the exception."
They lie because their unwarranted income from the political system is at stake. The lies start internally. When they've formulated a plausible rationale for their dissembling they lie out loud hoping their targets have limited critical thinking skills.

Right-wingers never cease to amaze me. They can easily believe contradictory things at the same time and see no problem with it. Look at how they saw Obama. He was both a radical jihadist AND a Godless communist. He was a dumb, milquetoast inept President who only achieved office because he was Black AND he was a brilliant, ruthless mastermind who wanted to rule the world as a dictator!
When it comes to the insurrectionists who stormed the Capital they were patriots who loved America and only went for a stroll into Congress to express their displeasure. OR they were Antifa disguised as Trump supporters who went it to kill and destroy just to make conservatives look bad! OR they were undercover FBI agents who wanted to ruin Trump. (For what reason? Who knows?) What story you hear depends on the wingnut you are talking to.
Ashley Babbitt was a patriot who was murdered by Biden's thugs. OR she was an Antifa plant who sacrificed herself to make Trump supporters look bad. They can't seem to make up their minds.
The Covid vaccine was invented by Trump so we should all be grateful to him. But the vaccine was also created by Fauci, Obama, Soros, China and the Deep State to control peoples minds, make them magnetic, turn them gay, install a tracking device and make you infertile so you should never take it!
There was massive fraud in the 2020 election and every Democratic win should be suspect. But those Republicans who were voted in won fair and square.
We must resist wearing masks, getting the vaccine and social distancing! AND the rise in Covid cases is all the fault of Biden. Why isn't he doing something about it?
Trump was right to agree to get us out of Afghanistan. We didn't belong there. AND Biden should not have pulled us out of Afghanistan! We should have stayed to defeat the Taliban!
Biden doesn't care about the Afghan civilians! AND Biden is bringing disease ridden, terrorist-prone Afghan civilians here to take over America!
I could go on and on. The idiocy is endless. As they say, if Republicans had brains they wouldn't be Republicans.
