He has been prickly lately. Maybe it’s age. Maybe it’s that a number of comedians lately seem to take umbrage with push back from fans about social issues. Because of this, I admit to thinking, “Cleese?! Now what?” when I saw the headline.

I have seen the writing in the OP previously. I’m not certain when Cleese wrote it. It is very clever. He’s been a favorite since Monty Python days. I prefer this Cleese to any other.

When he got called out on it, he doubled down (as seen in linked article).

When the questioning in that interview the other day got too close to the truth, Cleese ran off crying foul like a common cowardly Tory.

So, yeah, he mocks Hannity. He mocks Trump. But he also thinks blackface or yellowface* is Essential Comedy and anyone who objects to it is Big Brother, destroying freedom through political correctness and cancel culture. And like a spectacular hypocrite he wants any interviewer who challenges him cancelled.

There's no one on this entire board who was as big a fan of Monty Python as me, but I've come to realize that Cleese has always been the exact sort of bigoted posh twit he used to parody; he's just not faking otherwise anymore.

*as seen in "The Cycling Tour," in which he and Chapman played bingo-obsessed gibbering Chinese in a display that is funny only because it's so cringeworthy
