if you have only a cell phone, several of the tracking pollsters cannot call you. (the automated ones)

(157 posts)(which is weird because, before this election, I'd never been polled). I haven't been polled at all on my cell phone.

(46,436 posts)but we only use the cell phone when traveling. I don't usually answer the land line during election seasons, though. I figure if someone really wants to talk to me, they'll leave a message. I get several hang-ups a day. I'm sure I'm not alone in this.

(33,032 posts)Is strictly for my husband's business. Even during working hours - if he's working from home - he forwards the calls to his shop - and then his admin reaches out to him on his cell if it is urgent.

(20,776 posts)And I rarely get calls on my cellphones, from people I don't know.

(37,540 posts)Interested in seeing how this DU poll goes....I believe that 'cell only user' skews more to Democrats (a younger, urban, tech savvy demographic) and this population is growing - fewer people get hardline phones anymore and the polling will continue to deteriorate as this polling methodology becomes more suspect over time.

We do not ever answer our landline, though. We only accept messages on that line.

(5,248 posts)but I rarely use the land line...BUT it did come in handy during our big power outage here in San Diego last year. The cell towers tanked, no cell service, but the land line still worked (have 1 wired handset in my bedroom). Of course, most of the people I would want to call use cell phones so it wasn't THAT useful. Still if I needed to call 911 for any reason, that would work.

(27,423 posts)I think they keep it from a habit of 40 years more than anything -- they both mainly use their cells. My sister and BIL dropped their landline this past year.

(15,434 posts)Obviously, this was AFTER the 2008 election. I have cell phone service only.
I'm wondering how many other people may have made this decision since 2008. Especially those of us who aren't college age, etc.
