(1,364 posts)breakdowns, over and over and over are a bit much acting for me. Also, instead of rendering aid to the man she shot, she broke down and cried for "herself".

(1,364 posts)notice no tears, but a lot of drama.

(61,690 posts)It sounds like she made a bad mistake, but it was a mistake. That's very different from Chauvin, for instance.

(4,131 posts)Her actions were negligent despite the lack of intent. That negligence resulted in the death of an innocent man. Her prosecution is warranted.

(13,058 posts)At best she should only be subject to civil liability if she demonstrated carelessness and recklessness but not premeditated murder. One reason why our country has one of the highest incarceration rates in the world is because we throw too many people in prison when there might be better solutions.

(8,926 posts)A very big mistake. But I dont think shell go to prison.
And its very different from the crocodile tears of Rittenhouse, who took an AR-15 and went looking for trouble.

(5,124 posts)Sure, the thought of spending most of the rest of your life in prison is terrifying. She was very flippant about the fact that she did not follow department protocol. That tells me that her tears are all about how her mistake is ruining her life not that her recklessness took someones life.

(2,252 posts)I don't think her cries are fake. That's what my gut tells me. It also tells me that Rittenhouse is a total fake. Eddie Haskill with deadly weapon.

(1,476 posts)I would WANT to go to prison. I would plead no contest and take my punishment. Honestly, serving is the only way I could live with myself. I sure wouldnt be on a stand arguing to be set free

(13,058 posts)No wonder this country has one of the highest incarceration rates in the world. I used to think that progressives favored prison reform, but too many at DU seem to have a real blood lust and want to throw people who are not career criminals in prison and throw away the key.

(1,476 posts)Oh you killed somebody because you couldnt see because you didnt wipe the snow off your car - go to jail
You killed someone because you grabbed a pistol not a taser - go to jail
Your pit bull killed someone - go to jail
Im not talking life in prison but some reckoning for negligence costing another person their life is fair

(13,058 posts)The answer is nothing. Only people who intentionally commit violent crimes or serious white collar crimes should go to prison. Prison should not be used to get revenge against people who make genuinely unintentional mistakes.

(13,058 posts)Why do so many people always make the worst possible assumption about cases like this?
Mary in S. Carolina
(1,364 posts)1. She was highly trained
2. She knew the difference between a gun and a taser
3. She did not render aid
4. She fake cried on the stand
The facts go on and on that show she is negligent. Why are you not following the facts? Do you have a "gut" feeling that this was just an accident too? I am always amazed at how the facts are "whitewashed" when a black person is killed.
The facts are the facts and she is negligent.
