There are 10 spots in all. What's the one thing they all have in common?
They're all aimed at young active, outdoorsy women, perhaps single women or young mothers. The pitch is to get women to come to Texas for vacation adventures.
What do you think? Is this going to work?
I think it's a message to the single men in TX, saying "Hold on, the ladies are coming."

(2,594 posts)If they had used "Let's Go, Texas!" that would've been too obvious, so they dropped the "Go." I dunno. Maybe I'm just politicizing a perfectly innocent tourism campaign!

(40,730 posts)... that's coming out of Texas these days. Maybe I'm being too hyper-sensitive about it, I don't know.
These days it seems like everyone wants to leave the state.

(2,594 posts)to emerge onto the political scene in Texas. Right now, I'm wondering how these amazing women were ever voted into office in Texas. A totally different America back then, I guess.

(34,031 posts)However, I really don't see people leaving the state.
If you have some stats, I would appreciate it. Maybe they are leaving on DU, but Texas is attracting people from other states due to low taxes.

(34,031 posts)Not seeing the ads online myself. Since I live in Texas I have their travel guides. I've had a Texas travel guide in one form or other since 1987.
Every state has a travel/tourist bureau.
Texas certainly is not a "travel desination" We have Six Flags, the Alamo, Sea World and NASA. (Certainly not a reason to pack a car up or take a flight to Texas...LOL)
Texas is also a common "drive through" state which often entails an over night stay. Anyone driving from California to Florida is stuck going through Texas. (Hence someone stuck in Texas over night may wish to go out for BBQ or if sucked in by travel ads may spend an extra day or night just to visit Austin to see bats fly out of a bridge)
Texas OTOH is a fairly popular convention destination: DFW, Houston, San Antonio and Austin are popular convention venues.
We do have Big Bend National Park, which would probably be the best reason to travel to Texas, but it is really off the beaten path and best to visit in winter.
Travel Texas probably appeals to Texans more than one anyone because we're stuck here and it's much easier to take a road trip here in Texas than to travel out of state.

(40,730 posts)I don't know any young single women who would plan a vacation in Texas, so maybe that's why I can't see their logic.

I don't think they are purposely targeting women, but I would not be surprised that they chose a female narrator after this past summer. The Chamber of Commerce types were not supportive of the abortion ban.

(77,302 posts)That started during the GINGRICH takeover, when Frank LUNTZ was passing out word lists for Repukes to use for negative impact (rhetorical propaganda), words that polled negatively with his focus groups. He started that whole "democrAT party" stuff. Wouldn't it be that using an ungrammatical construction would grate badly on the ears?

(40,730 posts)They are all narrated by a woman and they feature vivacious young ladies (either single or with children) doing fun, adventurous things - in Texas. I play Microsoft Solitaire every day and that's when I'm seeing these ads most often.

(34,031 posts)I don't see their ads anywhere....
But it could be because I live in Texas..and/or because I use ad blockers etc.
I am a woman.
ETA: Many news articles require me to disable adblockers, but I still haven't noticed the ads.

(2,343 posts)are shit house. Amarillo smells like cow shit, east Texas is filled with racist dipshits with broken houses, there are wide swaths of emptiness, and southeast Texas is a fucking nightmare of cancer causing ugly ass oil refineries. Visit Dallas, Houston, Austin or San Antonio. Skip the rest.

(34,031 posts)Never been to Big Bend or Guadalupe Mountains National Park, but I bet they might be worth a visit.
BTW We visited Big Thicket in 2010 and really liked it. Although I can't imagine anyone from out of state getting excited about it. Everyone in Big Thicket and Angelina National Forest there was like, "You're vacationing here? We vacation over there"...LOL (They were referring to the Hill Country)...I thought it was hilarious. Everyone was shocked that we would drive 300 miles to Big Thicket, when we could just go to the Frio River or Guadalupe River or something..It was funny.
