"SNIP.......

“Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) last week made the White House a concrete counteroffer for its spending bill, saying he would accept a $1.8 trillion package that included universal prekindergarten for 10 years, an expansion of Obamacare, and hundreds of billions of dollars to combat climate change,” the Washington Post reports.

“But Manchin’s counteroffer excluded an extension of the expanded Child Tax Credit the administration has seen as a cornerstone of President Biden’s economic legacy, an omission difficult for the White House to accept in the high-stakes negotiations.”

“Manchin’s private proposal to the White House — the details of which have not been previously reported — was made just days before a spectacular public collapse in negotiations.”

2. One of Ted Kennedy's regrets was not accepting Nixon's compromise on healthcare

Kennedy thought he could do better with a Democratic President. That moment never arrived.

If Joe Biden thinks that the child tax care credit is that important (and it is), he's doing the right thing by fighting for it.

Your point might have merit if Manchin actually told the White House what he was about to do yesterday and gave them a chance to take his final offer.

He didn't.

12. That offer if real and if he and Sinems would vote for it would have been worth it

Obviously, it drops many good things, but it is good looked at without comparing it to what we were not going to get.

Manchin can piss off. Nobody elected him president or his little shit state.
Biden has got to find someway to make him pay.

Between that and nothing, I'd certainly prefer that.

I wonder how much can be saved by means-testing the child tax credit. Right now even families making up to $400K benefit from it. Surely that could be made smaller.

7. Why in private?

I smell a setup lie here. An unverified timeline used to cover up Joe Manchin's treachery toward Joe Biden's administration.

So why did you make the offer in private if you were so sincere about it Joe Manchin? That is if you really did make the offer.

He's trying to cover his lying ass now. We've watched his behavior and listened to his very public statements over the past year.

Where is the one Republican "moderate" who has no problem sticking it to their party every change he gets? We got two of them on our side.
