It was PACKED. Bad mistake on my part, but I was in desperate need of a walk, and it was 20F outside. I didn't stay long.
But.......
Only about 25% were wearing masks 🤬
Omicron is gonna burn through us this winter like a California forest fire.......

(19,382 posts)3rd highest weekend box office in history. Lots of risky behavior going on.

(171,660 posts)I think it is disturbing how many people will pack a theater during a pandemic to watch a stupid Spiderman movie....THIS is why the virus continues to spread.

(171,660 posts)but you don't have to dine indoors, attend packed movies, etc, either

(6,903 posts)been vaxxed, gotten the booster and WORN MASKS, we wouldn't have to stay inside now. It's called delayed gratification. Are you going to die if you don't go to the mall?

(171,660 posts)the multiple stories indicating yeah, this probably wasn't a good idea BUT.......this is how the virus spreads

(8,010 posts)It is a sad sight and we are so far into this that fatigue is understandable. For myself and my family, we have will take every precaution.
Initech
(108,716 posts)On one hand I can see why the other side is getting really fed up. But on the other hand, being related to a medical professional (a real medical professional, BTW), I do get why we have these precautions. What do we do? We can't keep living like this but at the same time we have to weigh all options to continue as a society.
jimlup
(8,010 posts)it may be that we get a booster or additional vaccination frequently. We continue to root for science to win this one despite the idiots among us.

(108,716 posts)I don't want to relive 2020 as long as I live!
Skittles
(171,660 posts)I don't seem to suffer much angst behaving in a responsible manner during a pandemic.....maybe because I have known hard times before?
Quakerfriend
(5,882 posts)But, I think many are too swayed by societal expectations- to go to that party OR
event youve long had tickets for etc. And, all of this suddenly building up just before the holidays is making it hard for some to abruptly stop & return to a lock down mentality.

(171,660 posts)instead of what they cannot have
I grew up as a GI brat who moved constantly, sometimes overseas....I would not see relatives for YEARS at a time, and this was when phone calls were too expensive and of course there was no internet. It really gets on my nerves hearing people whine about who they cannot see when they can freaking SKYPE CALL them, for example. Argh. People have become.....so delicate.

(5,882 posts)I suppose there have not been tough times for many in this country.
When I tell my kids about how some people live, l know they dont always understand.
Youve gotta go through some things to get it.
Skittles
(171,660 posts)I know my "hard times" don't even compare to what some folk have to deal with. For example, although I grew up very much living on a budget, I have never in my life known how it feels to not know where your next meal is coming from. I donate regularly to the local food bank because I find that feeling hard to even imagine, especially for children.

(25,816 posts)have many acres to roam on, and there's always some chores. I missed playing music with my friends,
but after the vaccines we started playing again after over a year. Still, that's here at my place, so no need
to go to town. Except for the regular weekly shopping, I never go anywhere.
Skittles
(171,660 posts)but I guess I have to remember some folk are way more social than I am, for sure

(10,890 posts)don't Twin Cities local go to the less touristy malls in the area?
dflprincess
(29,338 posts)or Burnsville Center. (Burnsville is so empty it's almost spooky.)
Not as many interesting things to look at & you'll have to make more laps to equal a MOA walk but it's safer from a crowd standpoint.

(51,308 posts)Or any weather for that matter. Sun, rain, snow...I love it.
I thought people who lived up north were supposed to shrug off cold weather?

(11,999 posts)That was enough.
I went to what was previously on the site, many times. And enjoyed the visits far more.

(11,999 posts)Id seen a department store, thanks, and told them to do their thing, and Id meet them in front of the store so we could go to lunch. I went all over the mall, made 3-4 purchases, and met them for lunch. I told them where Id been, and asked what stores theyd been to.
Daytons. That was it. We went to lunch, they went to another anchor store, and I found a bar, nursed a couple of beers and read my book. We had to drag our daughter out of the mall and she sulked when I headed toward home the next morning, instead of back to Bloomington.
My sister used to go up there every year to Christmas shop. Id rather have a root canal.
iemanja
(57,751 posts)It was a mistake on their part. Do you mean Macy's? They bought out Dayton's. Or maybe Norstrom?
I miss Dayton's. I found it magical when I was a kid. They recently reopened the old Dayton's building, complete with a Christmas display, in downtown Minneapolis. I haven't seen it yet.

(11,999 posts)Dry as hell inside.
Ironically a mask outside warms your breath. Great for walking outside.
