Break it up into a bunch of bills and make him vote on each of them.

Bill #1: Child Tax Credit. Nothing else.

Bill #2: Infrastructure. Roads and bridges. Nothing else.

Bill #3: Climate change. EV charging stations, energy efficiency, renewables. Nothing else.

Bill $4: Kindergarten. Nothing else.

Bill #5: Prescription Drugs

ETC.!

One reason Manchin is getting away with this is because the bill is so comprehensive and expensive. He can blame his no vote on any one particular thing and keep jumping from one to another.

If there is one issue at a time, he'll have to choose between voting against extremely popular ideas and going along with things that people want.

Let's see him vote against each of these things, one at a time.

Even if he does, he'll have to pay in the long run for each vote... the way it is now, he gets off easy just having to vote no a single time. Just imagine, next time he's up for election, having to account for voting against all these things separately and explaining why. Compared to just having to explain voting against a giant bill with lots of ways to "man-splain" his way out of it.

Also each separate bill will cost a lot less than the whole thing, so we don't have to keep hearing how expensive it is.

I'm thinking they could amend the bill to say one of those things (note that #2's done) but not the others.

You get two bites at the apple this year. You count bites, not apples.

Cutting the apple into bits doesn't get you more bites. It's still bites that are counted, not apples.

There are only so many bills that are allowed to pass with 50 plus the VP. They must affect the finances (either taxes or paid outs or both).

There can’t be a half dozen different reconciliation bills in a single year.

I think it's a much better way to legislate and run the country, regardless of what's going on w/Sinema & Manchin.

Debate each policy in detail and in all cases the Democratic way of thinking will win. It's simple logic, common sense, and decency. The mega bills allow that to get distorted.

The mega bills that get voted on at the last hour are a disaster of governance.

EV Tax Credit Extension with $5000 bonus for Union Built, reset the mfg counter so all mfg are applicable for credit. $5000 EV credit for trading in a heavy polluter.

There's one Bill.

Like that. Because if you cram 40 Climate initiatives together... some will be poison pills.

Congress needs to be VERY busy in January.

Along with all of the programs that it would be nice to have, there would also need to be bills to increase revenues. However, since all bills to raise revenue must originate in the House it would make the Democratic senators appear to be drunken sailors on a spending spree.

In addition, every bill passed by the Senate would need counterpart legislation adopted in the House. The bills would also be amended and another reconciliation process would need to occur between the two houses.

Yes, it is possible to pursue this route but it would be a nightmare and would not only force Manchin to make uncomfortable votes, but every other Democrat will have to make uncomfortable votes such as raising taxes. That doesn't seem likely in an election year.

Hell, it’s hard enough to get one bill passed much less a bunch of them - with a 50-50 Senate and one of ours is a “Joe Manchin”.
