Watch what happens when he's made to vote against it as it is now, he'll change his position again. Machin has exposed himself as the fraud he's always been. He'll never be re-elected again after this.

(46,227 posts)The state is solidly red, top to bottom. Trump won every county in both 2016 and 2020. All three House seats are held by republicans who won election with at least 60 percent of the vote. The other Senate seat is held by a Republican who defeated her Democratic opponent by 40 points. The state senate has a 2-1 Republican majority and the state house has a more than 3-1 Republican majority.

WV is a perfect example of how cultural issues have moved the lines.
No newcomer is winning in WV without being anti LGBT, pro gun, anti abortion, anti social justice. WV went hard red as we moved into the 21st century with social issues, they saw what we now embraced and wanted nothing of it

(18,579 posts)So was Ohio. They can change in the blink of an eye. I have lived too long not to see that. Southern Ohio, all along the River , Republican for well over %100 years voted for Obama!
We had Democratic Senators, Democratic Governors and the Speaker of the House was from my small town on the river. I never say never.
But Manchin has come up with a plan better than what they have been arguing over. I will wait and see, but the latest.
Report is after the first of the year. Do not forget we took yje WH, the Senate and House. More people voted in the last election than ever!

There is zero chance of replacing Manchin with a progressive in WV any time in the foreseeable future. Nor any chance of replacing him with anyone to the left of him. He is literally the very best that we can get out of that seat.

(11,885 posts)So expect excuses and more changes to get his vote for passage. He doesn't want it going to a vote putting him on the record preventing its passage, and Democrats should stop talking with him and make him vote, and call his bluff on it ASAP, and not weaken it.

(18,579 posts)Biden take the plan! It is bigger and better than the one they have now. Billions for climate change.
He is blaming WH staff, not Biden! Joe and Joe are talking.

(11,885 posts)Manchin will give in first, and he'll think twice before puling this kind of stunt again. Biden needs to regain HIS power, or he'll keep doing this to him. Biden needs to stop letting him make him look weak, and weakening his bills.

(28,761 posts)The proposal youre seeing discussed is the one that Manchin gave the president a few days ago.
Theres no new movement based on some imagined change of heart by Manchin due to some backlash.
What youve actually seen over the last two days is:
1- Manchin showed what should have been clear all along. We will not get anything close to the original wish list.
2- some of the most progressive heads exploded (note that were seeing Sanders/AOC/Omar/Jayapal and very little from mainstream democrats)
3- after a day of pulling out their hair
the realization finally dawns that we can either get nothing at all or we can get half-ish off the wish list.
So the messaging may soon turn to the positives of that half list. But we should have been there all along.
