The guy should be fired on the spot: Dr. Fauci fires back at assassination threat from Fox News host
Bob Brigham
December 21, 2021
America's top infectious disease expert on Tuesday said that Fox News should have already fired host Jesse Watters for shocking comments
CNN's John Berman interviewed Dr. Tony Fauci ahead of President Joe Biden's address to the nation on the Omicron variant.
"On the subject of divisiveness and I'm not going to play it because, frankly, I think it's dangerous," Berman said. "But Jesse Watters, who is a Fox News entertainer, was giving a speech to a conservative group where he talked about you, suggesting to the crowd they ambush you with what he said was some kind of rhetorical 'kill shot.' That was his exact word."
"I'm wondering, you know, how much that concerns you when you hear language like that about you and your well-being," Berman said.

Normally, HR will push fort employee terminations in matters like these, because that shows a mental imbalance and could manifest itself into a future workplace safety event. This even eclipses the negative public views that looned employees cast on the company's image--which FOX seems OK about.
The question would be, who is overriding HR and allowing these unstable people to be the face of the company?

(7,839 posts)that happen and become normalized?
If no consequences then this hate speech illegal in all western countries but America becomes normalized by default.
IronLionZion
(45,494 posts)in other countries. Obama took out Anwar Awlaki based on his verbal incitement of violence.
But no consequences for this Fox News douchebag.

(10,038 posts)Every state outlaws private militias acting as if they have a law enforcement role. Yet in Texas, white supremacists patrol the border to catch people crossing the border illegally, and nothing is done to them. All those militia members who went to Oregon to keep the peace (translated as stir up more trouble) during the George Floyd protests were violating the law, yet law enforcement did nothing. And yet a black person has a broken tail light can be stopped and murdered with impunity. A white person who commits insurrection by attacking the US Capitol gets a few months in jail. A black person caught with a small bit of marijuana for personal use can get years in jail. Our criminal justice system is screwed up, but it is the people enforcing it that makes it that way.

(9,894 posts)from this that it is now OK to discuss/advocate assassinating public officials in a public forum? I am getting old. I remember when you didn't really do that because a) it wasn't decent and b) the secret service might come knocking on your door. Yikes.

(33,360 posts)It was metaphorical. The dude is reprehensible, but it was clearly metaphorical, referring to his "kill-shot" question about the Wuhan-lab conspiracy theory.
Conservative's brains are infected by Guns; they can't construct a metaphor that doesn't involve shooting.
ForgedCrank
(1,782 posts)we are mocked so often.
We all know what Fox and their talking heads are about, that much is undeniable. But if you watch the whole thing without being clipped off, no one suggested actually assassinating anyone. It was about trying to destroy Fauci's credibility (which is bad enough in itself).
Jon King
(1,910 posts)It is what it is, we look to hard for outrage. The comments in context were about blindsiding Fauci with a tough question on film to make Fauci look bad. That was a journalistic 'kill shot' according to Waters. Repugs were able to message to suburban voters in VA and they will do it in the midterms.
RobinA
(9,894 posts)you mean and agree about what was said, using "kill shot" and then garbling the language that indicates it's a metaphor was clearly done to send a message that could then be backed away from. The dominant elements of that little tantrum were the speaker's smirk, the picture of Fauci's head, and the works "kill shot." When sane people talk about using an argument that will silence their opposition, they don't call it a "kill shot" like some testosterone-crazed military wannabe.
LoisB
(7,222 posts)Jon King
(1,910 posts)Nothing to do with shooting him at all, it was in the context of a journalistic 'kill shot' tough question for Fauci that he could not answer.

(18,638 posts)We know that Fox viewers have just as selective hearing as liberals. If someone looked up from cleaning their guns to hear that, they may connect the dots as secret marching orders.
We'll see if there's a surge in death threats or attempts. If so, I'd say there's an actionable case for lawsuit or dismissal.
RobinA
(9,894 posts)the whole thing because the words that indicate it was a metaphor were deliberately garbled by the speaker. You got the message that was sent. The metaphor stuff was put in there to be missed until the speaker was called out.
JohnnyRingo
(18,638 posts)...at the very first death threat, and we know they're coming, for making his family live in terror. Worse, if there's an attempt. If one succeeds, it should put Fox Entertainment out of business as a terror organization masquerading as a news corporation.

(108,136 posts)Dr. Anthony Fauci says he and his family continue to receive death threats amid inflammatory statements made by critics including Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a prominent anti-vaxxer whose new book is filled with wild claims attacking the nations top infectious disease expert.
Its very unfortunate because I dont think he is inherently malicious, Fauci said of Kennedy in a wide-ranging interview with Yahoo News on Tuesday. I just think hes a very disturbed individual.
The former environmental lawyers book, The Real Anthony Fauci: Bill Gates, Big Pharma, and the Global War on Democracy and Public Health, was published last month.
Its a shame because he comes from such an extraordinarily distinguished family, many members of whom I know personally, Fauci continued. I was very close to Sen. Ted Kennedy, who was such an extraordinary person and a real warrior for public health and to have RFK Jr. just spouting things that make absolutely no sense ... Im so sorry that hes doing that.
