America's top infectious disease expert on Tuesday said that Fox News should have already fired host Jesse Watters for shocking comments
CNN's John Berman interviewed Dr. Tony Fauci ahead of President Joe Biden's address to the nation on the Omicron variant.
"On the subject of divisiveness and I'm not going to play it because, frankly, I think it's dangerous," Berman said. "But Jesse Watters, who is a Fox News entertainer, was giving a speech to a conservative group where he talked about you, suggesting to the crowd they ambush you with what he said was some kind of rhetorical 'kill shot.' That was his exact word."
_snip-
Dr. Fauci, you have the means to put this Jesse Waters in a lot of hot water and I honestly believe to put a stop to this, people like him will continue to do this, he is serious, and to put a stop to this is for you to file charges against this Watters character.....make him pay in attorney fees, court costs, serving papers ,and everything else that will cost him money....he and others need to be shown that this stuff will not be tolerated.....
He is advocating that someone kill you, that is against the law, that means he is a accomplice, he cannot go around and advocate that someone should kill another person....like you, that is malice with intent, or anyone in your family...he is advocating for your murder that is a crime......

(2,809 posts)Albeit I hadn't time, opportunity nor (forgive this, circumstancial) interest in visiting with my alzheimer's-addled father in over a decade prior to reporting home (losing the best job gig I ever had to do this, BTW...) to legally force him into a nursing home to stop physically abusing my mom.
If that wasn't bad enough alone, turns out he'd gotten addicted to the hate-feed of Fox Fucking Noise. He was brainwashed to the point there was nothing left there but anger, hatred for everyone but his greatest-generation ilk, and spit nothing but Fox Noise talking points to his grave. He'd pulled a gun on his caregiver. (the final straw that brought the whole family to intervention after they couldn't keep home caregivers employed) (gee, I wonder why).
His hero at the time was that greasy fat fuck O'really, he threw absolute wild tantrums if anyone interrupted his praise of that hero even for important matters. All his children were the "takers" milking off what he had "maker'd". (oh the irony does not end there)
Wanna see Fool's Nwz brought down?

(135,857 posts)Yes, yes it is.
And when it happens publicly, you aren't supposed to have to wait for the target to complain before the authorities do something about it.

(9,897 posts)A world without Jesse Waters wasting oxygen would be an immediate improvement...but I really do hope that he receives that kill shot he preaches as soon as possible. Won't shed a single tear for him, ever.

(1,910 posts)No use looking for stuff that is not there, Repugs have done plenty of truly criminal things.
The comments were that people should go up to Fauci in public, film it while asking him why he funded Wuhan labs. Waters said that asking him that question on film would be a kill shot.
Obviously he meant Fauci would not have an answer and they could air that on Fox News. It had nothing to do with asking people to shoot Fauci.

(9,897 posts)1) IGNORING the obvious dog whistles and threats?
2) PRETENDING that Waters really meant metaphorical innuendos to his mouth-breathing audience of reactionary brainwashed jackasses?
I find both approaches dangerously naïve. Here in East Kansas, a confrontation in a parking lot over inconvenience led to a murder that was swept aside as a nothing-can-be-done, 100% innocent "stand-your-ground" self-defense. The shooter walked, his victim died. Why do I bring that up? Because stand your ground IS the mentality of these right-wing freaks - the exact same freaks who tune in to Jesse Waters and look for dog whistles.
If they start threatening you and your family in the same way, will you still be so cavalier about the context and suggestions? I am guessing no, but maybe I am wrong?

Sometimes this takes some time. Watters will never get a job again for this speech.
That is my opinion, and I am sticking to it.
The words, "Kill Shot" have double meaning. Watters did not make a distinction about the definition.
...Something about photography...or something about shooting someone.
..........Not everyone knows about the..." photography angle"
..........Most people know about the "shooting someone angle"
Watters used the wrong language, and set himself up to be fired. Weather Fox News does that is
a totally different story.................Time will tell............After all, We are talking about Fox News..!!!

(7,412 posts)In the entire context, Watters said people should video themselves ambushing Dr. Fauci with questions about funding the Wuhan lab, and that question is a kill shot because he cant answer it and hes dead right there.
Theyll simply say it was rhetorical.

(33,360 posts)Watters is incapable of creating a metaphor that doesn't involve Guns and homicidal violence. Like most Conservatives; see the Sarah Palin "target" mailer.
Watters was laying out the "zinger" question he's got lined up for Dr. Fauci, as if the dumb Wuhan Lab Covid Conspiracy theory is something he isn't prepared to discuss and will have to just admit it's true, because Watters is such a genius journalist, and not an interchangeable Propaganda Clown.
This misinterpretation makes DU look hysterical. Stop kneejerking and watch the clip.

(45,494 posts)with Fauci angrily telling him he doesn't know what he's talking about. It's not the brilliant gotcha that Jesse Waters thinks it is. But just red meat for the base.

(33,360 posts)I do. It is a common RW CT that needs to be refuted and mocked. The RW Nut Job Coalition in Congress and the RW Media are pimping it daily.
Bernardo de La Paz
(49,027 posts)I suppose you think Palin's targets on Democratic candidates was just a metaphor too?
I don't think we need apologists shoring up these cretins' semi-plausible deniability.
maxsolomon
(33,360 posts)Since that's what they literally were. Palin was "targeting" Dems for defeat in an election in that flier. Watters was comparing his Wuhan Lab question to a "kill shot" and and "ambush".
Are they irresponsible metaphors that could inspire a RW Nut Job to an assassination? Doubtful, but not impossible.
I resent your accusation. I've been here 20 years and that's a 1st.
