(32,349 posts)What was the Guard going to do to obey Trump's orders? Fight against the Capitol police? If the Guard fought against the traitors that's what we wanted them to do, the insurrection would have been stopped and the vote counting continue.
Someone needs to subpoena military officials. We have a document that was written by a National Guard whistleblower who claims that generals lied to Congress. Why has this whistleblowers claims been swept under the rug.
Fuck this article, it sounds to me like a huge CYA.

(68,437 posts)allowed themselves to be sucked into it, the National Guard would have been deployed "to protect pro-Trump people" (as Mark Meadows said), and Trump would have used the violence as an excuse to declare a national emergency, invoke the Insurrection Act, and attempt to seize dictatorial power.
But since the left stayed home and left the stage to the trumper insurrectionists, Trump refused to deploy the guard to control them.

(32,349 posts)someone was responsible for delaying the Guard and this article is pure BS. Bring in the Guard whistleblower and let him testify, publicly, before the select committee.

(1,249 posts)after the attack on the Capitol, he should have arrested Trump and then let the chips fall constitutionally.
If he publicly called for the invocation of 25th Amendment, in that small window the rest of the Cabinet would have agreed with him.

(58,785 posts)deployed to the Capitol, of course, and could explain any lies by the commanding generals involved about why they weren't. Claiming they thought it would be "bad optics" perhaps seemed preferable to admitting fear of a possible military-supported coup by the president.

(27 posts)I read elsewhere the theory that the reason *drumps circle was so panicked over visuals is that they were expecting opposition to show and engage with the insurrectionists, permitting the NatGrd to be deployed and Insurrection Act invoked. When no oppo showed and the 'circle' lost control over their mob, that's when the e-mails to Meadow started flowing. The delayed NG deployment (directed by Flynn's brother?) was, in my mind, in hopes oppo would show and the plan could proceed.

(55,177 posts)There were motives behind the bigger pieces of the puzzle. They say of coups, of revolutions, of dictators, of governments, if you've lost the military, you've lost everything.
So the doubts of many of the officials surrounding TFG were whispered, privately. If this is the predominant trend, the coup plotters and leaders including TFG are just about hung out to dry!
