I don't have a clue but here is what I know if that was his plan. 1. He wanted a big counter-protest, 2. he wanted those 2 bombs to go off, 3. he wanted mayhem at the Capitol. From what I understand the procedure was changed about who was in charge of deploying the Guard.
Here's the deal though, 1. the counter-protest didn't happen, 2. the bombs didn't go off, the reasons for Trump to declare martial law were disappearing so someone delayed the deployment of the Guard because they wanted more mayhem.
We have a whistleblower from the Guard who wrote a document about who was responsible for delaying the Guard. The whistleblower claims that Generals lied to Congress. Are Generals above the law? The whistleblower gave his document to the select committee and we have heard nothing about this since. I believe that this could be one of the ways to nail Trump for being involved in the planning of the coup, it needs to be followed up. The generals need to be called back before the select committee and asked to explain the whistleblower's claims, and make it a public hearing.
Honestly, as crazy as Trump is, he would have had a hard time pulling off declaring martial law, but who knows, but this Guard deployment needs investigated.

(579 posts)I still wonder about this, and about how soon it will be that we actually need that plan.

(32,615 posts)I'm telling you those aides who thought to take the electoral ballots with them when evacuating were heroes. If those ballots had been taken by the traitors who knows?

(53,333 posts)When the states transmit their electoral votes, they go to Congress and to the Archivist of the United States. The current Archivist, David Ferreiro, was appointed by President Obama so theres no doubt he would have brought a set of documents to Congress.

(32,615 posts)there are so many loopholes in the Electoral College procedure that I believe it calls for the original ballots, I could be wrong. But yeah, there would be a record of the originals.
Then again as member Starfishsaver, a self-pronounced Constitutional scholar, stated here over and over again, nothing could be done to overturn the election on 1/6 because this was just a formality, the states had already validated the results of the election. It sure looks to me like SFS was wrong. We need language to close those loopholes.

(77,725 posts)Or something like it. He wanted more bloodshed, death, destruction, and the counting of the votes
in congress stopped so he declare martial law and then suspend the peaceful and Constitutionally directed
transfer of power to President Elect Joe Biden.
TFG invited the rioters to D.C. and he gave out the day, the date, the time, and the place for his planned
coup.
TFG helped to pay for "it" using campaign funds.
TFG and his henchmen had been working of months on the Capitol Attack.
TFG's chief of staff, Nick Mulvaney's cousin filled out the paperwork for the permit to hold his pre-insurrection
pep rally.
TFG replaced Sec. of Defense Mark Esper with Christopher Miller who gave a stand down order to the D.C.
National Guard on 1/4/21. Prior to that order the D.C. National Guard would have responded to the violence
@ the Capitol right away.

TFG refused to ask his thugs to stop the violence after multiple calls from the likes of Mike Pence & Rep. McCarthy
telling one person "the big lie" again that the rioters took election fraud seriously.

Video of him during the insurrection shows that he is very gleeful and happy.
At this point he thinks he has a good chance of staying in power?
The very bad things he wanted to happen didn't happen.
Including the death and/or kidnapping of Pelosi and Pence.
But would that have stopped him?
I think he would have declared martial law if he thought he could get away with it.
No matter if the bad things didn't happen.
I don't know who or what stopped him from taking that step.
Edit to add: Typically someone with Trump's high degree of narcissism/ sociopathy and poor impulse control would have forged ahead no matter what. Unless something scared him badly about this move. Just guessing here, but would be consistent that someone else or something constrained him in his quest for permanent power.

(26,507 posts)I don't believe I ever saw that video. Can you post it.
The MSM should be playing it over and over - every time they show clips of the actual insurrection and Capitol ransacking.
Showing a gleeful Tr**p when they show the insurrection clips is very damaging to Tr**p - especially when it took so long for him to make any statements to quell the rioting that day.

(82,090 posts)Sorry I have no idea how to post videos or pictures here on DU.
The video is of Trump and his family in a large white tent watching the insurrection on big TV screens. I believe it is the initial part of the insurrection.
Trump and Ivanka are standing together watching the TV screens. Trump is hugely happy, smiling and laughing. Ivanka has the good sense to have a blank face.
Junior is there with his girlfriend Kimberly Guilfoyle. She is dancing and prancing around like she is high.

(22,779 posts)Isn't correct but there have been multiple stories about what took time for the Guard to deploy and why.
-to help the Insurrection
-to stop the Insurrection
-to arrest dupes after members of Congress were killed
-to arrest Congress
-to institute martial law
-to prevent martial law
and so on
They were delayed by orders, or lack of, from the President or a WH staff member or SECDEF or an Assistant SECDEF or Gen. Miley or other general(s) or officers in the CoC.
Or they only arrived as quickly as they did because...

(32,615 posts)there have to have been a heck of a lot of people involved in this coup. The traitors in Congress who objected to confirming 2 states, the people who planted the bombs, people in the military, even Capitol cops, Congressional traitors who gave Capitol tours, someone disabled the panic buttons, the lawyers who prepared the blueprint, lawyers I'm sure were ready to go to the SC., the funders, and who paid for the burner phones, and who decided on the encryption? Meadows seems to have been the middle man who relayed messages so that Trump could keep his hands clean. Meadows better wake up and smell the bacon, he is being primed to take the fall.
