1. Unofficially, it really slays me to feel like I have to resume tracking this data.

And, even more disturbing, the fact that the revolving graphics are back, and cycling through all those other data points -
New Cases Over Past 14 Days;
New Cases Over Past 72 Hours;
Total Vaccinated (by now it's 61.5%);
Change In New Cases Over 14 Days;
New Cases Over Past 14 Days Per Capita (the Northern Mariana Islands lead that top-5 list at 3.03%, Massachusetts is lowest on the list - at 1.05%, with Rhode Island, New Hampshire, and Wisconsin in the middle, in that order);
States With Most Cases Per Capita (Tennessee leads the list with 17.3%, Arkansas is "lowest" of the five states, at 16.0%. AND BY THE WAY, it's all red states, including North Dakota, Florida, and Mississippi).

I'm sure I'm with everybody else, just bewildered to see these graphics return. That reality strongly suggests this is a BIG problem again - and even the on-air folks think these stats need to be revisited and tracked again.

Personally, awhile back, I actually allowed myself to think we really were on the downward slope away from this. Even the TV graphics weren't running anymore, as they had been at the (previous) height of the pandemic last year. A signal that the news folk perceived that emergency had eased, and close tracking of the various categories wasn't that urgent to issue anymore. HAH! Guess again.
