(9,225 posts)Senator Manchin is too far removed from his constituents to understand what it's like to have to stretch your income to cover necessities.
Joe, you need to walk a few miles in their shoes. Spend so time driving their 15 year old car to their $10. an hour job (if that), and sitting alone in the kitchen at night wondering how you're going to pay for utilities this winter.
Joe, you simply don't have any idea what your constituent's needs are.
You need to drink deep in the life of quite desperation so many of your people are experiencing.
It's not about you, Joe. You have more than enough.

(82,849 posts)Stringing along this charade when by all indications he had no intention of voting for BBB all the time. Instead, he stalls and obfuscates and does his little Hamlet routine and the weekend before Christmas shafts his party, his constituents, and the country. But that's not enough; he has to come up with a rationale so insulting even some (not a lot, but some) Republicans cringed.

(2,133 posts)and in the way. He epitomizes the thinking of many people his age. It really is all projection. Republicans and people like him are like the people he imagines stealing "money" in their inner selves. They have a view that everyone cheats because in the same situation they would cheat. They would steal votes if they can, they would go and spend money on booze and drugs. They would falsify sick leave to get time off. They are cheats.

And adding unless there is evidence, why go there?

Perhaps Joe is simply assuming that others would do what he would do with that money. Keep in mind that Republicans invariably project their own sins/behaviors/desires on everyone else.

(58,785 posts)but all tokes, etc, would probably fit into that 6% "other" or in "recreational goods." Self reported statistics, of course, but by definition this tax credit goes to employed adults with a dependent child..
In any case, I hope Manchin's insults damage his image as they should. He has until November 2024 to do damage control, of course, and voters are very fickle, but maybe personal offense will be longer lived.
