I gotta tell you something...

Last edited Thu Dec 23, 2021, 10:19 AM - Edit history (1)

You may or may not have heard about the congresswoman whose car was hijacked in South Philadelphia yesterday. She was robbed and fortunately not injured badly in a physical sense.

Now because this is Philly, these idiots who did this allegedly, were found in her car in Delaware, five of them who are of course now taken into custody. This is how stupid the crooks are around here, that whether she was a congresswoman or not, this crime is tantamount to attempted kidnapping and when a female is involved the cops go out of their way to make sure that they search for the perpetrators. We have the dumbest criminals imaginable here, and I knew when I heard the broadcast reports of this occurring, that they would get these guys within a few hours.

Of course since I don’t live in other places I don’t hear too many stories but I will tell you that in 68 years of living in Philadelphia I have heard the most remarkable stories attesting to the utter stupidity of perpetrators including one guy who wrote a demand for money in the bank on the back of his utility bill which hereceived in the mail, so the police and FBI knew where to pick him up. And then of course there was the infamous Joey Coyle who was following an armored car when a huge bag of money fell out of the back, he stopped and picked it up, nobody knew or saw him do it, and of course he went to his favorite bar, spread money around, and told everybody he just come in to hundreds of thousands of dollars as he was driving. Naturally, the news reported that a bag of money had fallen out of the armored car and he was picked up in no time. All he had to have done was to put the bag in his car, go home, and wait a while and he would’ve gotten away with it.

Life is just a barrel of fun… As I have written before, I am occasionally surprised but never shocked.

the Pan Am plane crashed over in Elkton, Maryland, back in 1963. Students could see the flames of the plane as it fell from the sky.

Pan Am Flight 214

Site: Elkton, Maryland, United States 39°36?47.8?N 75°47?29.7?W

Pan Am Flight 214 was a scheduled flight of Pan American World Airways from San Juan, Puerto Rico, to Baltimore, Maryland, and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. On December 8, 1963, the Boeing 707 serving the flight crashed near Elkton, Maryland, while flying from Baltimore to Philadelphia, after being hit by lightning. All 81 occupants of the plane were killed. The crash was Pan Am's first fatal accident with the 707, which it had introduced to its fleet five years earlier.

An investigation by the Civil Aeronautics Board concluded that the cause of the crash was a lightning strike that had ignited fuel vapors in one of the aircraft's fuel tanks, causing an explosion that destroyed one of the wings. The exact manner of ignition was never determined, but the investigation yielded information about how lightning can damage aircraft, leading to new safety regulations. The crash also spawned research into the safety of various types of aviation fuel and into methods of reducing dangerous fuel-tank vapors.

Anyways, cops issue a statement, "Better return the bag. We know who you are."

Now if they knew who I was.... maybe I better quit here.

As I recall, there were several attempts on Sal Testa's life before they finally got him in that candy store. And Harry 'The Hunchback' Riccobene survived two attempted hits - one while he was in a PHONE BOOTH.

And those were just a few of the problems they were having, carrying out their 'assignments'.

And, thanks for the Joey Coyle mention. Just the other day I was trying to remember that guy's name.

I was meeting someone for an early dinner the afternoon Sal Testa was shot and survived about a block from where it happened and arrived 10 minutes after it happened. He was a bad man, arguably worse than his father who was assassinated by a nail bomb.

Also remember when Frank "Chickie' Narducci was hit. That was a Phil Testa job.

I lived right on South Broad St, not too far from the Italian Market. My landlord was Jimmy Tayoun.

It was an 'interesting' time to live in South Philadelphia, that's for sure.

I know he got into some trouble but honestly, the Tayoun family was absolutely lovely. Mrs. Tayoun saw me come in, one night, really not feeling well. About an hour later she knocked on the door, and had a tray of food, for me. She said she figured I wouldn't feel like making any dinner, but she wanted me to eat something.

I'll never forget that kindness.

I knew them because I was a dentist on Moyamensing Avenue when I first got out of school and was in their presence a few times. He was old-school city councilman who took good care of his neighborhood and his neighbors. Of course, all these people were incredibly corrupt on many levels, but since it was universal it was a given and we accepted it as a norm.

The targets are usually older women driving newer SUVs. The perpetrators are usually a group of three or so juveniles cruising for victims in an already hijacked vehicle. The vehicles are trashed and abandoned within a few hours to a few days. Guns are rarely involved.

This has become more and more common over the past several years. If you drive a nice car around here, be aware of your surroundings. The most common locations for this to occur are store parking lots and residential garages. Our neighbor a few doors down was carjacked in her garage not too long ago.

It’s a sad state of affairs.

The thief took it home and parked it outside his house. He bragged about it. Neighbors called the police, but it was gone when they got there. The next day, they got a call saying it was in a town 15 miles down the road. He was arrested at his job interview. No word if he got the job or not. Dumb.
