On Thursday, in a new video posted to Twitter, NBC4 Washington's Scott MacFarlane the main correspondent covering the January 6 Capitol insurrection trials laid out the most "distinctive mystery" that still continues about the event.
"There are a lot of questions that still have to be answered from January 6th, a lot of big questions, but let's not lose sight of the distinctively big question that remains right here," said MacFarlane, standing in front of the Republican National Committee headquarters. "There was somebody on January 5th, 2021 who left destructive pipe bombs right here, and near Democratic Party headquarters. And as of tonight, the FBI has not announced an arrest, or publicly announced a suspect."
"In a vacuum separate it from the rest of January 6th what a profoundly important question that is," continued MacFarlane. "Who left pipe bombs on Capitol Hill? It's a question that has yet to be publicly answered. We know they've been flooded with tips, and they keep showing those surveillance images, those surveillance videos ... to yield and generate more tips. But no announced arrest just yet."

I really don't know. But I do agree about security & that the person should have been arrested long ago!
I get the feeling it would be quite inconvenient to arrest this traitor...

(15,526 posts)We don't even have telescopes that can see the lunar landers, and even a giant stadium on the Moon would be barely a dot using the Hubble telescope.
https://www.discovermagazine.com/the-sciences/moon-hoax-why-not-use-telescopes-to-look-at-the-landers
----------
So lets look at our lunar descent stage. Its 4 meters across, but 400,000,000 meters away. That gives it an angular size of (4/400,000,000) x 206265 = 0.002 arcseconds.
Hey, wait a sec! Hubbles resolution is only 0.1 arcseconds, so the lander is way too small to be seen as anything more than a dot, even by Hubble. It would have to be a lot bigger to be seen at all. In fact, if you do the math (set Hubbles resolution to 0.1 arcseconds and the distance to 400,000 kilometers) you see that Hubbles resolution on the Moon is about 200 meters! In other words, even a football stadium on the Moon would look like a dot to Hubble.
----------
As for everything else, the person might've never stayed at a hotel or anywhere else with decent surveillance cameras.
The surveillance video that I've seen isn't very clear at all, and the person was wearing a hoodie with a mask over his face. So I'd be surprised if anyone who's personally interacted with that guy could identify him that way. And that's how most of the Capital insurrectionists were caught... somebody recognized them.
Also, artificial intelligence sucks at identifying patterns that humans can detect easily. There's a reason why "captcha" tests are given online to prove you're a human. It's because AI stinks at even recognizing something simple like bicycles among a mess of other imagery.
And I don't consider that person's gait to be especially unusual, at least not enough that I'd remember it each time that I saw other people walking. Most people walk weird, to me, to be quite honest -- shuffling along to "look cool", or whatever the heck explains their very inefficient-looking walking styles.
Maybe if it was truly weird, like one guy from my high school who bobbed up and down like he was on a pogo stick (as he'd always land on his heels and then lift his feet off the ground from his tippy-toes for whatever reason), then maybe I'd call the FBI to report that guy from my high school of years ago. (At a high school of thousands of students, that kid's head bobbing up and down could be easily recognized among a crowd from hundreds of yards away.)

(8,178 posts)The images I saw were not clear to me either. the hoodie and mask was very effective and though the gait was a little unusual, not that distinctive to me either, other than my first instinct conveyed female.
But since traditional gender characteristics no longer apply and given the hoodie and mask, it's going to be fairly unlikely to positively identify this person, I think.
Which is unfortunate.

(15,526 posts)That person might be a big-mouth about it eventually, but I'm not very confident about capturing that individual otherwise.
I suspect that kid from my high school had some kind of physical disability, so I always had sympathy for him, but his walking style was the most unique that I've ever seen. I was tempted to ask him about it a few times, to better understand it, but I never did. I had a couple classes with him during my time in high school, and he certainly never came across as mentally challenged at all.

(49,297 posts)and Im sorry I cant find it now, but one of the men they profiled was LEO who was outside the Capitol and watching, but waiting for reinforcements to arrive. So maybe DC police or FBI. And one of the scenarios they had discussed prior to Jan. 6 was the possibility of a bomb that would create a distraction and pull a lot of responding law enforcement away to deal with the bomb, leaving a clear path for the mob at the Capitol.
And while hes out there watching the situation at the Capitol deteriorate, a call does indeed come over the radio about a bomb. And most of his colleagues do take off to respond to that, leaving him one of a very few left at the Capitol wondering WTH is going on.
I think finding out who planted the bomb and who came up with that plan would be the final piece of the puzzle.
Irish_Dem
(81,277 posts)That makes sense. Keep the police occupied elsewhere while the mob gains access to the Capitol. Once the mob is in the building it is going to be harder for the police to gain control.
Which is in fact exactly what happened.
I wonder if it was someone with knowledge of law enforcement? Who might know exactly how many police would be on duty, how many would leave to respond to the bomb call. Though I suppose non LE could figure this out.
Yes I would like this piece of the puzzle to fall into place.

Knowing who the targets were, where they were at the time of the planting of the pipes and at the time set for detonation is important.
And it would seem that the media could get a lot of the answers to those questions.

(13,849 posts)If the bomber was a NOBODY, we would know the identity by now.
If the bomber is a member of Congress, disclosure becomes more complicated.
It has been almost a year. If the FBI can't ID a bomber in a year, something's amiss.
They know.
