(21,385 posts)not being investigated by the select committee, but by the FBI. You can't run out the clock on a grand jury.
We need to see more of this done to the higher ups, but it's a start.

(38,958 posts)I still don't believe anything will happen to any of them. No consequences will be suffered for their attempt to subvert our democracy.

(21,385 posts)We had 1 case that was investigated by the select committee and sent to Garland. He took 3 weeks but he did indict Bannon who is going to trial.
Nothing will happen if DOJ does not get involved and investigating Sygney Powell is finally getting involved.
To the wait and see crowd, see how we find out that Garland is doing something? Not meant for you Sherman.

(4,116 posts)We were unable to gather enough signatures to recall this Cowboy Princess (he worked for Disney in Paris for close to 6 years)...and he brags about Sydney Powell being his attorney during monthly County Commission meetings..in between whining that his troubles are all someone else's fault.
I donated to Planned Parenthood in his name...win-win for me. And I've been busy recruiting; we have to file in March for the November election. I want another full ticket. The woman I recruited to run for school board won by 53 votes...against a home-schooling, anti-mask, anti-vax, anti-CRT in public schools candidate.
"I myself wear Jan. 6 as a badge of honor, Griffin says in the film, infused with orchestral tones. Im glad that I went on that day.
to stand with my fellow Americans in protest of what will one day be known as the biggest rigged election in American history.
...Griffin says the film about him was put together by Trump-allied attorney Sidney Powell and her group, Defending the Republic....Griffin also is challenging directives by state election regulators to register Cowboys for Trump as a political committee, arguing that financial disclosures would subject contributors to harassment. Griffin insists Cowboys for Trump is exempt as a for-profit group and wants a 2019 state law concerning independent political expenditure groups to be declared unconstitutional.
Powell is representing Griffin in that case, now before the U.S. 10th Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver."

(36,130 posts)Powell might be representing Griffin, but she won't stand before the bench; likely another lawyer will. If she gets an unconstitutional ruling, that would only help her fend off a suspended license, I guess.
That Griffin is even allowed to run for sheriff tans my hide. What is wrong with people in that county?!
I can't believe that, attached to Trump as he is, NM would let him claim non-profit status, either.
I hope you've got good lawyering helping you out. Keep fighting the good fight!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, duhneece!

Really. I still don't know how to post photos on DU, but you can see and comment on Facebook Alamogordo Chamber of Commerce post it's the only one with lots of comments.
Then, on my Facebook page, Denise Lang-Browne, one could see the picture I posted yesterday of a man with a mask on in WalMart, which would ordinarily be good, but this one had a Confederate flag on his mask.
One of my younger friends said this all makes him hate our county, but I reminded him of the times I have loved our county for every performance of THe Vagina Monologues, the 10 years we had a 'We Trust Women' commemoration of Roe v Wade rally at our busy intersection, the huge (for Otero County) Orlando vigil...
I'm struggling with a complaint or possible criminal violation of my rights on Election Day, Nov 2. The Chair of the Republican party tried to have me removed from my legal electioneering place...unsuccessfully. I requested a report of the Incident and was told they didn't have to do one...so I asked around with friends, got advice so then I requested the Dispatch Transcript, which had some interesting info...then I requested the audio, but have been unable to hear it. I have a friend's son who (may) help me after Christmas. If he can't help me hear the audio, I'll find someone else.
I already reported it to the Election Bureau of the Sec'y of State but they said it was a criminal concern, if anything.

(36,130 posts)YOU GO! Congratulations on your legal electioneering win.
I hope you can have a badass Democratic lawyer on retainer; looks like you're going into the lions' den. Keep sending status reports to the Sec'y of State, since one of them could provide probable cause for state investigation into your district.
Silver City's Councilman Nick Prince over in Grant County would like to know about this. I hope you don't mind if I relay what you've told me. He's very much into preventing a Republican foothold in NM, and will be sworn in the first week of Jan.
Thank you, duhneece, for being the badass part of the Democratic Party. Keep up the recruiting and may your number grow!

Sure, no lawyers are allowed in grand juries but the DOJ prosecutor. But grand juries are known to indict 99% of the time. It's permission for badass lawyers to proceed.
The DOJ's evidence has been there to convict 154 people indicted for Jan 6. No one has been found not guilty. None.
The higher level players can run but they can't hide. The nation will see round after round of indictments at high governmental levels. Court rulings for the network surrounding Trump have not gone well, and will culminate in criminal charges, with Gym Jordan being the linchpin between Trump and the rest.

(21,385 posts)we are on the same page, except I think I am a couple paces in front of you.
What would have happened if the select committee was the one investigating Powell? Nothing would have happened because there isn't enough time to convict her. I find the news that Garland is finally going after a mid-level traitor glorious. It's about damn time.
Garland needs to be doing more of this. Of course we should be seeing Powell brought to justice.

(36,130 posts)Don't move goal posts. I get that weird lawyers get a lot of play. But on the whole, we have no choice but to support the DOJ and Jan 6 committee that Jill Wine-Banks says are working in tandem, as they should. I take what she says as fact.
Because we don't SEE Garland doing more, doesn't mean he isn't doing the more that you want, and way beyond that. We, none of us, are not entitled to the play by play inside game that gets the bad guys, or the bad guys are all tipped off, too. Right? Every complainer here about the DOJ tends to forget that.
THAT SAID, I don't trust the pro-white Republican bias that exists in the FBI and the DOJ. They create inertia, which is unjust peace. They could be doing just enough of their jobs to appear to be keeping their oaths.
So it better not lead to the downfall of democracy.
But I refuse to be trapped by doubt and cynicism.
Have a happy holiday!

A federal grand jury has found evidence that Sidney Powell, a former lawyer for ex-President Donald Trump, filed false incorporation papers for a Texas based non-profit called Defending The Republic, The Guardian reported on Friday. The U.S. Attorney's office for the District of Columbia issued Powell a grand jury subpoena back in September to look into the alleged fundraising fraud, according to The Washington Post. Federal prosecutors requested communications and other documents dating back to Nov. 1, 2020, related to the fundraising and accounting for organizations led by Powell, including DTR and a political action committee by the same name.
Specifically, the incorporation papers for DTR listed two men as members of the organization's board of directors despite evidence indicating that neither authorized Powell to do so in an apparent effort to attract donors. According to the paperwork, the board consisted of Powell herself, Georgia attorney Linn Wood and Brannon Castleberry, a Beverly Hills-based businessman and consultant, The Guardian reported. While this discovery points to possible fundraising fraud, federal prosecutors are looking into several other aspects of the organization to determine just how deep Powell's alleged falsification goes.
In the ongoing inquiry, investigators are trying to ascertain if Powell diverted funds from the organization for personal use including on a defamation case brought against her by election technology company Dominion Voting Systems and one of their former employees. They are also looking into whether she may have deceived donors by falsely claiming that their donations would be directly used to finance lawsuits filed by Powell, as the private attorney to former president Donald Trump, in an attempt to overturn the 2020 presidential election.
All of her suits not only failed, but drew harsh criticism from the sitting judges, one of whom went so far as to sanction her for alleged ethical misconduct and refer her to the Texas State Bar for investigation. Moreover, out of the series of lawsuits she filed nationwide, investigators found only one single instance in which DTR funds were used to finance an election case, according to the Guardian. Powell rose to prominence as the promulgator of several election-related conspiracy theories, including the false claim that the 2020 election was conducted illegitimately or the evidence-free narrative that the FBI tried to frame Trump for the Jan. 6 Capitol riot in an attempt to oust him from office.

(129,349 posts)involved in reviewing evidence for possible future indictments related to the creation of a bogus fundraising entity, which may have also ultimately lead to contributing to the financing of what happened on Jan. 6. She appeared to be central in much of the "legal" and "financial" stuff that happened post-election so it's a matter of digging through what has to be massive amounts of data, amidst an avalanche of lawsuits and counter-lawsuits that one would have to wade through.
As a note, no law enforcement entities are eager to put their entire case developments out in the media as they are happening to satisfy the internet watchers. That would be suicide-in-a-future-courtroom and instant grounds for appeal.

(36,130 posts)Impanelling grand juries can last as long as threads of an initial case are followed, from what I understand. I read that the DOJ has had one impanelled since May (don't have the source handy).
