Both Herschel and his son need to keep their ignorant, misinformed mouths shut:In case you missed it, Georgia Republican U.S. Senate candidate Herschel Walker today claimed in an interview that it doesnt fit civil rights icon and voting rights advocate John Lewis legacy for the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to carry his name.
During the interview, Walker also twice suggested that Lewis a longtime member of the U.S. House was a senator.
Transcript:
WALKER: You know whats sad about that to use the name of a great man to brand something that is so bad, I think it is terrible to do. Senator Lewis was one of the greatest senators that has ever been and for African-Americans that was absolutely incredible; to throw his name on a bill for voting rights I think is a shame.
First of all, if you look at the bill, It just doesnt fit what John Lewis stood for, and I think they know that. And I think that its sad for them to do this to him.
Well if he doesn't know John Lewis was never a senator are we sure he knows he was a great man? or anything at all about the voting rights act? where does the gap find these candidates?

(9,445 posts)I realize the name of the act may, or may not have been changed after John Lewis died, but didn't John Lewis advocate for that act when he was still alive.

(9,445 posts)Clearly, this man was not prepared for this interview. It is obvious he did not do any research on John Lewis, and likely did not do any research on the John Lewis Voting Rights Act, before sitting for this interview. Would Hershal Walker be able pick John Lewis' picture out of a group of pictures?

(29,406 posts)Voting rights was pretty much his raison detre.
Ignorance of an appalling degree. But there are those in Georgia who will vote for him because he played football.

(2,715 posts)Claiming a degree over and over till a newspaper exposes the lie and then saying it was a mistake? Republican.
Entirely rewriting history? Republican.
Taking a great mans core legacy and turning it backwards? Absolutely Republican.
And in the process trying to rob his brothers of their voice? Core Republican values.
It is a sad tale, the tale of Herschel Walker. A man who gained the world and lost his soul.
