(11,611 posts)They deserve so much more. The way they've been treated is criminal.

(13,871 posts)She started her nursing career almost three years ago as a floor nurse in a big city hospital.
She saw more death and suffering in her second year than she should have in a lifetime.
So Im not very tolerant of the anti-science assholes.

(47,105 posts)My daughter is a new Nurse Practitioner who works in a hospital.
Prior to that she worked in the ER as a charge nurse.
It is unreal what she has seen and been through.
She was really happy to get a surprise Covid bonus from the hospital.
Did your daughter get one?

(13,871 posts)She has been Type 1 diabetic since she was six. She was focused on nursing from an early age, wanting to be a Certified Diabetes Instructor, which requires a nursing degree, 2 years experience and passing a course and exam.
Her hospitals CDI is retiring at the end of the month, so my daughter was made her assistant in August and will take her job in January.
That was her 5 year goal, so she is ahead of schedule, but they announced 10-15% bonuses in November, and since she had left her job she wasnt eligible. Was pissed at the Administration but has gotten over it. I dont think she could have lasted another year on the floor with Covid patients.

(47,105 posts)That alone is worth missing the bonus. And she is achieving her career goals.
Better long term career strategy for her. If she was still on the floor she may have gotten sick or quit.
My daughter's hospital just gave out flat rate bonus of a $1000, not a percentage of salary. She was really happy to get it, especially since she had just had an $800 car repair bill!

(13,871 posts)But her husband is an Air Force medic, and both of them got Covid in March 2020. Along with all their shots they should be OK these days.
Dont tell the anti-vaxxers, but she said she was much sicker from her second Pfizer shot than she was with Covid, but she was over it in a day. Her husband never had any symptoms at all.
My daughter is not much of a drinker, but said her Covid case felt like a 4 day hangover.
Oh to be 24 and healthy again.

(47,105 posts)Big difference between that age and mine!
I was really sick with Moderna, especially the booster, but it beats being on a ventilator and dying.
Well if your daughter is still going to be around Covid patients, she should darn well get the bonus.
My daughter said that in her hospital the bonuses seemed to be given out in a random manner, no one seemed to know if they would get one or not. She just lucked out I guess.
The hospital also gave out discounts for health insurance for those who exercise regularly, have a good BMI, and don't smoke. She fit the bill on these so she was happy. It looks like the hospital is trying to retain staff.

My sis's good friend who's a private nurse got it back
Feb 2020. It was several months later when the really recognized the symptoms, and realized she'd had it!
