I had an interesting discussion with some conservatives in which they objected to me saying that having lots of very affordable rapid COVID tests would be a good way to be able to keep things moving. The idea being that if they are cheap then airlines, restaurants, etc.. can do the tests to drastically reduce the risks of many normal activities. I thought that was a pretty reasonable idea, but apparently that offensive and infringing on their rights. Which I guess I should have expected that given the amount of pushback masks have received. Although, I think this is even more ridiculous than the anti-masker.

Does the availability of at-home pregnancy tests violate their rights too?
Their getting me sick infringes on my rights.

(1,568 posts)on everyone if they were cheap enough. Obviously it's still voluntary since they don't have to use that business/service, but they didn't seem to like that idea. There wasn't any good logic behind it given either. Other than "my freeeedums". Well, someone did say HIPAA and something about not knowing where those cotton swabs have been. Not very solid arguments.

(1,568 posts)However, as a whole, you're spot on. But then again, they do support people who are on the wrong side of that debate, and they vote for them. So, I guess it's ultimately the same in the end. At this time I noticed their arguments were not very well formed. I'm curious to see how these develop over the coming month or so as those testing plans start to bring about results, and perhaps we'll even see something with home rapid test prices come down to a level where they are all over the place all the time.

Before you buy a ticket, you agree that you will either show proof that you are fully vaccinated at least 2 weeks prior to the concert
OR
you show proof that you have tested negative for COVID in the last 72 hours.
It seems perfectly reasonable to me, and of course, they can set whatever standards they like. It's THEIR concert! But OMG, the uproar!
