When one Ohio family battling homelessness got the surprise of a lifetime from a long-time client, it was like Christmas morning.
Suzanne Burke is a frequent client of Ebony Johnsons Dunkin Donuts drive-thru in Cincinnati, where she works as an employee. It was around three years ago when the two became friends.
Burke had just noticed that one of her favorite employees had been absent from the office for a few weeks. Ebony and her family had been evicted from their house, and she was informed of this.
When she was going through this difficult time, I simply wanted to see if I could do anything to help, Burke told WCPO.
For Ebonys surprise, Burke collaborated with charitable groups and worked with a stage designer to provide her with a completely furnished house that she could call her own just in time for Christmas...
This has made the rounds in our locality for a couple weeks. Last I heard is now that the crisis in Ebony Johnson and family's lives have past Ebony is looking at culinary education which could lead to more lucrative opportunities. I hope she can follow through with this.
Marco Rubio, MTG, among others, believe being a good Christian is cutting and pasting Bible verses and taking selfies of themselves with an open Bible on social media, then quickly going about their hateful business. Suzanne Burke demonstrates good Christianity through good works which probably included investing a good deal of time in doing so.
I certainly hope more stories like this surfaces. We need more Suzanne Burkes in the world if for no other reason than to drown out the overabundance of faux Christians.

(4 posts)I agree with you that hateful christians are a problem, but I didn't see anything in the article to suggest that Burke helped the Johnsons because of religion or even that she's a christian.

(38,559 posts)The act itself exemplifies Christian values--regardless of its intent

(4 posts)No, it exemplifies nice, caring human values.

(24,653 posts)Many of us possess these values in spades without it having anything to do with religion whatsoever.

(24,653 posts)Sorry. Over abundance of religious relatives getting in my face this time of year. Overly sensitive to this right now. 😊

(4 posts)I think trying to take credit for a good act as a "christian" thing when there's no evidence christianity is involved at all is not being a good christian.

(38,559 posts)I merely pointed out that the OP seemed to think that the act was a christian-like thing to do. And they are.
I don't care who's Christian and who isn't. But I didn't see any point in any of us getting nit-picky about it.
I'm done.

(4 posts)I was referring to the OP.
It's hardly nit-picky to point out that lots of people are good without religion, a point that many religious do not believe.

Why I remember reading about when the Orange Anus took money out of his foundation to pay for his son's Boy Scout membership.
--- supporting the Boy Scouts. Now who could be against that?
And seeing him holding the Bible at that demonstration, why seeing him being so overwhelmed with emotion that he held the Bible upside down --- well I'll tell ya, that brought a tear to my eye.

(17,984 posts)This morning. The hate, anger, revenge and selfishness, down right cruelty is doing more to drive people away from so called Christianity.
I am done of them. I see the many good things Chruches and Charities are doing. Yet I know sitting in Chrch I am among many who seethe, rage, rant about everything they decide they do not like. Follow bigots who pretend to be religious and laugh at the idiots that follow them. It is sickening.
After a great Christmas with family that cares we are back to the same old stuff.

(33,580 posts)the real story is that people with jobs in this country still fight homelessness.
For every Ebony, there are hundreds who don't get any help.

Only a savage nation would allow this kind of stuff to happen to millions every day.
And, no, I dont have a solution.
