Seattle hit with overnight snowstorm (3-5 in)...

…a condition for which it is generally unprepared. We are supposed to fly out this afternoon.

Buses have been re-routed away from the area we’re staying in because of the snow.

Care shares are charging $90 because of the snow.

My SIL can’t drive us because she’s in COVID quarantine.

Walking to the train will be in 28 deg weather down a steep hill with unshoveled sidewalks.

Wish me lunch.

It’s a combo of ice under and snow above. Between bridges over waterways and hills, Seattle is never going to be ready

All inbound flights to Seattle are being held at point of origin for the next hour.

Average delays of 40 min and increasing.

Our favorite when I was growing up in Seattle in the winter was Split Pea soup and grilled cheese on sourdough (or tomato soup) with hot cocoa or a hot mint and ginger lemonade mom used to make using kool-aid lemonade powder, finely ground dried mint from the summer garden, and ginger powder, which she'd mix with home-made simple syrup in a pan.
Seattle has never handled a snowfall over 2" ever in my memory - too many hills.
Good luck getting around.

Edited because I keep hitting the post button instead of check spelling for some reason.

Is a taxi a possibility? They might charge less than $90. Or perhaps someone with 4 wheel drive can help out. It's still snowing heavily here in the Orting area, with about 2" on the ground. We are down in the river valley and usually don't see much snow (too warm). It's really a day to stay home with some hot tea and leave the driving to others.

The upcoming week is going to have temps in the 30's and 20's.presumbly and artifact of the La Nina weather cycle that is giving us a colder wetter winter in the PNW. This will be the the coldrst spell I think that I have seen out here since I've been here.
