"...133 plaintiffs filed a civil suit against Romneys Utah finance co-chair, Robert Lichfield, and his various business entities involved in residential treatment programs for adolescents....
The suit alleges that teens were locked in outdoor dog cages, exercised to exhaustion, deprived of food and sleep, exposed to extreme temperatures without adequate clothing or water, severely beaten, emotionally brutalized, and sexually abused and humiliated. Some were even made to eat their own vomit."

May not be what Alred's disclosure is about, I have no idea, but Bain's CRC is tangled in this stuff too.

"Our investigation found previously unreported allegations of abuse and neglect in at least 10 CRC residential drug and teen care facilities across the country, including three I visited undercover in Utah and California. With rare exceptions, such incidents have largely escaped notice because the programs are, thanks to lax state regulations, largely unaccountable."

(20,024 posts)"Robert Lichfield, co-chairman of Romneys Utah finance committee owned or operated residential boarding schools for troubled teenagers where students were subjected to physical abuse, emotional abuse and sexual abuse.
The complaint, which plaintiffs amended and resubmitted to the court last week [week of June 14, 2007], alleges children attending schools operated by Lichfield suffered abuses such as unsanitary living conditions; denial of adequate food; exposure to extreme temperatures; beatings; confinement in dog cages; and sexual fondling.

(12,272 posts)Because she has attention deficit disorder, Filer was unable to consistently follow the exacting rules, and repeated small violations were seen as ongoing defiance. It broke my heart that my mom had no belief in me, she says, describing how, because WWASPS had told her mother to dismiss complaints as manipulation, her mother ignored her pleas to come home.
Oh yes, let's give the states more control, they so obviously know what their citizens need.
Abuse and humiliation at a young age sets the individual up to be obedient and submissive, doesn't surprise me in the least that Mitt was involved with this.

Hey! Antisocial? Got some sexual issues you're repressed 'cuz BabyJesus doesn't like them, or they might prohibit you from entering Planet Kolob? Or, just like to "punish" people, as a mean kid does to ants under a magnifying glass? Or just a sadistic asshole? Boy, are YOU in the right place! Put on your Armor of God and fuck others over, beat the shit out of them, humiliate them, bend them to your will! Because YOUR will is obviously GOD'S will! Cuz you couldn't do NUTHIN' without GOD!!
This kind of abuse has gone on for YEARS, but, as in most things, everybody "knows" Christians can do no harm! They'll never LIE!! They are the ONLY GOOD people around! Sure, that's why they get all the tax breaks, 'cuz they only want to do GOOD! They are kind! They help the sick and the old and the poor!
How DARE anyone attack them!?!?!?!
No wonder so many monsters have been able to hide behind religion. It got a pass around suspicion for 500+ years. Lately, though, thanks to showing their true colors, their numbers are fading and many people want nothing to do with them, myself included.
Some of my friends are parents who still see no wrong in leaving their kids with church "schools," pastors or preachers. I guess those abused kids will become the next generation of religious "leaders" and start the process yet again.
I'm with you.

(16,854 posts)I can't imagine the anger that powerlessness might bring.
This is like that case where a judge ended up in prison. He had a lawyer/cohort building and operating for-profit juvenile detention centers. The judge was sending kids there for no reason and extending their sentences without trial and with no end date.
I think I saw it in Mike Moore's 'Capitalism, A Love Story'.
