(27,834 posts)No doubt his sister, her husband and my brother will stop by, too. Then that's it, for me. I'll make a pizza, open some wine, play with the kittens, look for something interesting to watch on HBO Max, and probably be asleep well before midnight. For how long depends on the kittens.

(16,953 posts)we usually go to a bar around 4 just to be kind of festive, but not this year. Once the ball drops in NYC and Sooshie in Key West, 9P our time, our evening is usually done. Bubbles, some football, perhaps a movie. And yep, no bathroom lines, which is a thing at my age.

I like your "hot club" much better.

(3,157 posts)We're going to have beers around my portable fire pit. It's only going to be 6 people and everyone is fully vaccinated and boosted. I used to play in bands or run sound for a living. Even though the pay was great for NYE I don't miss being out on that night at all. 'Amateur night' is correct. It really is the worst night of the year to go out. Everything is way more expensive. Save your money and maybe your life and just stay home.

(16,159 posts)Thanks for the reminder irisblue. I ran out of Orville last week - and it's fresh home-popped corn for us or nothing. No microwave bags to be seen in the house.
Happy New Year!

(22,218 posts)and that was a whole bunch of miles ago. So, no impact on us. My better half loves all the hubbub, just not being IN the hubbub. I couldn't care less, since it's just an arbitrary start and end of roughly 1 earth orbit. Could have just as easily been on a lunar cycle in Sept or April. A better idea would have been a solstice, regardless of what day in our calendar it lands on. And we as a species were marking the solstices before metalworking. In short, Jan 1 is just a current convention for marking time and is meaningless beyond that. I know, I'm no fun. I'm just no fun at all. I get told that every single year.

(53,194 posts)What is this "club" you speak of? I'm going to work. I work every Friday night.
In fact, the next time I will have New Year's Eve off is 2029.

Back in the day in NYC on the Upper West Side I'd walk over to Central Park while the hubby would nap...
"Children of all ages can enjoy the celebrations there. Fireworks are launched at midnight from Bow Bridge-Cherry Hill, at the center of Central Park (situated between 71st and 74th Streets), and they can be seen from most spots in Central Park."
We lived on West 73rd. 😎
Those were the days, my friends...

(68,202 posts)We have reservations at a nearby Spanish restaurant. I rarely drink alcohol but will have a glass of Cava in celebration.
Our wedding took place in the living room of a local Justice of the Peace. We said our vows with a cassette recording of the Ode to Joy playing softly. I wore blue velvet. I still have the dress but can no longer fit in it (it musta shrunk in the closet).
Beautiful day.
