(1,517 posts)I used to work with a guy that became a fanatical Trumper. He once told me that all Canadians hate their healthcare system.
at the time, I lived in a neighborhood that was heavily populated with Nortel employees. Many of these people were my friends and I often asked them how they felt about their healthcare system and how they felt about the US system.
Every single one of them told me that they had loved their healthcare system while living in Canada and found the US system (even with excellent insurance) to be confusing and very expensive.
So, I challenged him on this and asked him where hed heard this. He came back with that he had a cousin who is married to a Canadian that hated their healthcare system and therefore all Canadians hated their healthcare system.
I pointed out to him that this was a glaring logical fallacy and that one person saying that they hated the Canadian healthcare system could not ever be construed as all Canadians hated their healthcare system. Needless to say, I had absolutely no impact on his view.
Stupidity combined with willful ignorance is Americas greatest threat. This kind of attitude is what has led to the massive death toll from Covid. None are so blind as those who will not see.

(13,885 posts)Many would get medical procedures done while their stay in the US b/c they did not have to wait. It would cost the Canadian health care system more than if it was done in Canada. The Canadian gov't shut that down "tout suite" to the point where we hardly ever saw Canadian patients.. One patient told me it was a good system once you got to the doctor you needed. The problem was the wait. Her grandfather died while waiting for a "lung hospital" bed to treat his cancer..
Some good some bad...
and so it goes...

There is no wait for critical care.

(33,233 posts)The gulf between that 10 and 11 is wide, the one between 9 and 10 is minuscule.

You will see some variance between the provinces.
OHIP in Ontario is really good. I have friends treated by the Ontario system. I wish I had it.

(3,622 posts)I'm pretty sure that if there was a significant problem with the Canadian Health Care system, something would have been done about it by now.
Since there is no mention of a movement to privatise the Canadian system I'm inclined to believe that the general level of satisfaction is fairly high...
Certainly higher than our level of satisfaction.
