Can anyone please comment on this bit of Covid crap.

My neighbour says:

"The viral load created by those that are vaccinated and develop Covid has been found to be multiple times greater than those who are unvaccinated. "

WhereTF did this originate and does anyone have a source to specifically refute it??

You could show him solid scientific proof that his claim is nonsense and he'd still come up with loony tune stuff.

it may do some good or at least plant a seed of doubt. This guy, and his wife who is of similar views, BTW are not what one would necessarily term stupid or unintelligent (they both have university degrees, one in physics and the other in music).

They have however gotten themselves into this unfortunate mindset (if that's the term for it) eg. they also don't believe in climate change or evolution. They are otherwise very nice and congenial folks who I suspect would do just about anything for you. I therefore fear for their welfare and would like to help if possible (even if the chances are admittedly small).

University of California, Los Angeles: Vaccinated people with breakthrough COVID infections had lower viral loads

On Dec 30, 2021

Vaccinated health care workers who experienced breakthrough COVID-19 infections during the winter of 2020–21 had lower viral loads than their similarly infected but unvaccinated co-workers, according to a new UCLA study. The findings, published this week in the peer-reviewed journal Open Forum Infectious Diseases, show that infected workers who were fully or even partially vaccinated with either of the two mRNA vaccines authorized for use in U.S. had less of the virus in their test samples and were therefore less likely to “shed” — or orally or nasally expel — viral particles.

I've bookmarked it in case it comes up again.

BTW, this guy also thinks vaccinated individuals are super spreaders because the mRNA vaccines are "gene therapy" and the vaccinated therefore produce, and shed, the virus themselves. That one, I do have good sources for a rebuttal.

The pandemic spread is now that of the vulnerable, and gullible, non-vaccinated victims of of the hype who've fallen for trumpist/winger/anti-vaxx foolishness. And because omicron is so contagious, they will most likely get it if they remain unvaxxed and unboosted.

Hearts and prayers to them.

"The disinformation dozen".

There are basically 12 people responsible for posting most of the disinformation about COVID and "alternative treatments", and they're all getting rich from from their disinformation.

He'll probably never believe it anyway, because it doesn't shoehorn with his preconceived ideas about the virus, the pandemic, the vaccines etc. but it's worth a try. If we can all reach one person.....

https://thehill.com/homenews/sunday-talk-shows/565831-fauci-amount-of-virus-in-breakthrough-delta-cases-almost-identical

https://www.reuters.com/article/factcheck-fauci-spreading/fact-check-fauci-did-not-say-covid-19-vaccines-are-spreading-disease-idUSL1N2PJ1KZ

"What we learned that's new, John, in answer to your question, is that when you look at the level of virus in the nasopharynx of people who are vaccinated who get breakthrough infections, it's really quite high and equivalent to the level of virus in the nasopharynx of unvaccinated people who get infected," Fauci said.

So in no way is it multiple times greater.

The only way that could be true is if the comparison were between a vaccianted person with COVID and an anti-vaxxer without COVID.

I think the origin of this misinformation is MAGATS misreading the results of this study:

https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=3897733

The misreading is that the elevated viral load (251x) in breakthrough vaccinated cases is relative to the older strains, which the vaccines almost entirely blocked. When Delta came along, and breakthrough cases happened, viral load matched that of unvaccinated.

As always, when this sort of confusion emerges, I always go back to:

THE VACCINES ARE SAFE AND EFFECTIVE

bookmarked.

BTW, they don't believe vaccines and in particular Covid vaccines are safe and effective.

"Some [friends and acquaintances] have chosen not to vaccinate as their families have significant history of vaccine injury with long term medically validated problems. Unfortunately in these cases, the Covid terms of a medical exemption do not accept these validations."

So, it does little good in pointing that out.

You will be able to turn in your friends and family if they fail to understand that vaccines are safe and effective.

It's unfortunate that it's come to that but ultimately safety and science will triumph over free-dumb and 'muh religion.

They are as high but drop off more quickly.

In vaccinated people the viral load drops off sharply at 5 days; it takes 7-9 days for unvaccinated people.

But the fact that it is as high in the early days (inlcuding 2 days before symptoms) means that vaccinated people still ned to wear masis even when asymptomatic - because we can infect others just as easily - just not for quite as long.
