And it says a LOT about conservative "Christians" (some of whom I'm related to so I know this nails them)

(21,310 posts)making a big public show of their religion amounts to nothing more than using religion as a cover to shield themselves from culpability for their despicable behavior. Show up in church on Sunday and they'll be recognized in public as "good Christians"--and the crimes they committed all week often in private will be swept under the rug and forgotten.

(22,449 posts)By the word religion I have seen the lunacy of fanatics of every denomination be called the will of God. I have seen too much religion in the eyes of too many murderers. Holiness is in right action, and courage on behalf of those who cannot defend themselves, and goodness.
A quote from a movie that played fast and loose with history to put it mildly, but love the quote and it's very apropos. Carter is into goodness. Conservative Christians are the very thing their savior loathed. Life is full of of such ironies.

(6,513 posts)Where I live, the Trumpsters go to church at least twice a week. Many of them own small businesses -- from trimming trees to well drilling to car repair to installing air conditioning. They frequently rip off customers . They refuse to stand behind their services or products and charge far higher prices than are found in large cities. Their fall-back position is that they're good Christians. (They mention it in their ads.) Truth is, their false piety simply serves as camouflage, covering up the grift they know they're committing.

(26,322 posts)there are conservatives, and then there are Christians.
Somehow in the past one of them lumped the two words together, and voila, they are magically 'conservative Christians'! And what they have done is actually trashed the original meanings of these formerly independent words to make themselves sound better, be better than the rest of us somehow because they have magically attached a self-made title to themselves in describing themselves.
Isn't this a sin to be prideful, according to the bible?
These people have ruined what it truly means to be Christian, and pretty well don't like any changes at all, in their lives or anything surrounding them, thus they resist the Sciences of all types, and embrace being called 'conservatives' as a result, when in fact, they should be called anti-science and hypocrites.
The simple truth is that they resist change of any type, for it means that Mankind is learning more and more about the medical sciences, the Universe, and other things surrounding us for the good of all of us.
We have now advanced medications that we never would have dreamed possible even 10 years ago, amazing cancer treatments, gene therapy, inserting bone marrow to fix an array of medical issues, operating on tumors in the brain (and other locations in the body), materials sciences (making new substances an atom at a time), feeding the entire world as a result of our agricultural advances (seeds, equipment to harvest crops, etc.), the list could go on endlessly.
Ironically, some of these very same anti-science people, hypocrites as they are, grow genetically altered crops or raise hybrid pigs (which they pump full of antibiotics), etc. to boost their yields, and use products that were developed using advanced techniques not even visually years ago, and yet complain or mouth off about science and the computer age nonstop. Even the Amish weren't above using someone else's car to hitch a ride to a job (my dad did this, even though I disagreed, he took them from and to the job twice daily).
Therefore, when you run into such a person, who doubts the benefits of our modern age as I described above, simply smile and go your way. If anything, you are far better equipped to handle the coming Future than they are, and if they're mouthing off at you, I'd say either they are jealous or envious (yet more sins of the bible, eh?). Don't waste your time or energy on them, life is too busy.

(9,714 posts)It all boils down to pro-choice. If a politician claims to be pro-choice, the CC will vote against them 100% of the time. That's why it doesn't matter if Jimmy Carter was given his sainthood, since he aligns himself with pro-choice he is necessarily evil incarnate in their eyes.
