Is anybody watching the CNN special on the very real threat to democracy in America?

I’m in a fetal position on the couch. I actually burst out crying. Fareed Zaharia is not mincing words about what’s going on. Everyone should see this.

We took our eyes off the prize. And now unless we are very very lucky we are going to pay the price.

But I will tell you of all the documentaries I’ve seen, this one really brings it home. Compared what is going on with Trump
and his followers to the rise of Nazi Germany.

But honestly, nothing has been said in recent days that I didn't already know and didn't predict 30 years ago.
All democracies are weak, but ours has been ready for the picking for some time.

When Reagan and the Republican Party openly courted the Moral Majority crowd in the hope of consolidating their power. They thought they could control the lunatic fringe, only to discover they would eventually take over.

1980 was a watershed year for sure, that's when it became crystal clear to me where this was going, as you say with the "Moral" Majority's unholy alliance with the Republican Party.

Then in the late 80's Rush Limbaugh started spreading his poison, and with the destruction of the Fairness Doctrine in 1987 it opened the door for Fox News to build their propaganda machine without opposition.

I just wish that I could have actually done something with the knowledge of what was coming.

..have done something. The rest of us didn't see it coming.

All us regular folks can do is vote and either enough haven't voted or they voted the wrong way. As has been said, too many voters can only see the present moment and think only of their wants and needs.

How many of us got involved in local politics? How many of us pursued a career instead of choosing civil service?

It's not just the Trump cult and Republicans we have to blame - in 2016 1/2 of voters didn't even bother to go to the polls and in 2020, 1/3 stayed away. Democracy can't survive and flourish in the presence of apathy.

All of us are responsible to some extent if what Zakaria fears come to pass.

..but the past 5 years of observing Trump and the GOP while listening to MSNBC, I'm well aware of the direness of the situation.

Of course CNN won't listen to my little voice, but I sent this suggestion to comments@cnn.com.

They should put this program in entirety on YouTube or other social media platforms.

This is not business as usual.
