The federal minister for immigration has warned he may exercise further powers to cancel Novak Djokovic’s visa again, just after the Federal Circuit Court judge overturned the initial cancellation.

The lawyer acting for the government, Christopher Tan, told the court a short time ago that the Minister for Immigration (which is Alex Hawke) will now consider whether to exercise his “personal power of cancellation” even though Judge Anthony Kelly overturned the Minister for Home Affairs’ decision to cancel the visa in the first place.

Judge Kelly told Mr Tan he appreciated the warning.

“I could have been something approaching incandescent if I had discovered that for the first time...this evening or the early hours of tomorrow,” Judge Kelly said.

The majority of the public is against letting him in, they Australians have put up with lock downs and quarantines, and, according to most Australian news reports I've seen, most people find it outrageous he could be allowed into the country
There are elections coming up in the spring, and being opposed to him getting in is, at least at this time, a vote winner

I detest our current govt but am 110% on board with them not letting that plague rat into Australia. There's asylum seekers who have been in that quarantine hotel and have been stuck there for years and novaxx doesn't give a shit about them.

So sick and tired of the wealthy and privileged getting special treatment '(

I still miss the days of you and Jack Rabbit and Lithos in the I/P forum. Holidays here have left a bit to be desired, thanks to the Rona, but now we're allowed to travel outside our little part of the world, me and my puppy and my Golf GTI have been doing day trips around southern NSW.

Hope yr happy and healthy and staying safe!

But what is frustrating me is that the media coverage really has not focused on exactly what does the law say in this situation, and was it followed? If a medical exemption is permitted and ND complied with the requirements, then that should determine justice IMHO. Change the law for future situations.

If instead the law does NOT allow for an exemption for which he qualifies, and Tennis Aus and Victoria were wrong for telling him he was approved for the visa, and ND relied on that in traveling such a long way, etc., then I believe that should be considered. If the commonwealth, and NOT TA and the state, had sole authority to issue visas, then why were TA and Victoria telling him (and maybe others) that they could enter the country? What obligation does Aus have to remedy this, if so?

I’m not a ND fan, but I agree that this seems badly handled by the various entities, and the law may also be ambiguous (can’t tell from the media articles). So I am concerned about what is fair.

So as an Australian taxpayer I have to pay for his entitled temper tantrum? Fuck that. Fuck you, tennis Australia. We've all done lockdown after locjdown, yet you want a dangerous anti vaxxer to come here? This is so unfair.

That is how he should be portrayed in the press. This goes for any and every "hero" in sports. They aren't tough guys or heroes. They are big, whiny babies and should be ridiculed by all sports figures and the media. They should be booed by everyone, not emulated. "Wha, wha, wha, I don't want a needle, I am so afraid", should be the the ridiculed attitude of these tough guys. Make fun of them, humiliate them, treat them as the self absorbed losers that they are and they certainly do not hold them up as any sort of hero.

They draw a crowd of people who hate him and will boo and jeer him. As opposed to a smaller crowd with no polarising figure to draw in the $$$

I hope the Australian govt cancels his visa for another reason. Very few Australians want him here. He's got a nerve insisting he has a right to come here without being vaccinated

that hadn't occurred to me. Being booed is also a money maker. The love/hate thing. It all boils down to $$$ every time, regardless of the issue.

That almost worldwide, political leaders have had a gutful of Covid (haven't we all) and have decided to throw in the towel with the virulence of Omicron and give up on fighting. Morrison certainly has. I don't blame them for being tired, being dispirited, but FFS, those of us who have done all the right things deserve better than this.

Those of us who have complied with all covid laws, restrictions and regulations - after two years, are being hung out to dry. Just because the pollies are sick and tired of the pandemic and can't cope with the negative press any more.

Sorry Scott (and others) I haven't come this far, at my age, to give up now. It's up to you fuckers to do the right thing too.

I'm so pissed off that the wealthy and elite get special treatment in what is supposed to be an egalitarian country. I'm also really annoyed that Scomo is using this as a populist distraction from a shortage of RATs and the handling of the pandemic.
