I have COVID as of yesterday, after being exposed by a family member.

both of us unmasked, for less than 10" while she grabbed the grandkids last Wednesday. She's an RN and I trusted her, but I shouldn't have.

Unknown to me/us, she had put off her booster for several weeks because she didn't want to feel bad and miss a day of work (ER nurse). She felt herself getting ill and quick got a booster last Wednesday. She was sick on Thursday and tried to pass it off as side-effects to the shot to me on the phone. By Friday night, I was sick too. I am so pissed by the deception.

I was told to quarantine for 10 days from yesterday. Let no-one in our house, don't go anywhere (store, etc.) lay low. I'm using one bathroom and two rooms upstairs. She's now telling me it's only 5 days and I don't need to prove I'm well. I'm not listening to her, of course. She's just worried about the free babysitting we provide. I'm following what I was told by my provider. She and my son are divorced and it's been difficult to navigate some of her behavior. Sadly, now our little granddaughter, aged 5 is sick. Our grandson, age 7, has been vaccinated thanks to my son and me (which pissed her off for some reason), and he hasn't gotten sick so far.

I will follow this rant with good news for all. But I'm really pissed about this. We still grocery shop online, wipe everything with clorox, do curbside pickup for everything, have been total mole people for most of the last two years. But all it takes is one weak link, and wham!

On the upside: I am 73 year old female, overweight, with COPD, asthma, and type 2 diabetes. In my favor, Im told despite all of this, I'm a "young 73." I have both vaccines, my flu shot and my 3rd Covid shot (booster). I have not had a fever (at least not above 199), have not lost taste and smell (so it's Omicron), I felt slightly achy on Saturday and yesterday, today that's gone. I have a bronchitis like cough/croupy, high up in the chest, a slight sore throat and that's all for now. I am sooo very grateful for the vaccines and boosters. I am sure they are saving my life. Good luck everyone!

The CDC is STILL under undue influence from non-scientific pressures and TFG era appointees, and it will take years for this administration to clean house.

This is a direct response from my wife's boss, a Dr who is one of the most respected in his specialty (Neuroscience) in the entire world.

Even now commercial concerns are driving the Covid Response. Gotta love Unregulated Rethuglican Capitalism.

Thank you for sharing your story. I am so glad you're all vaccinated and on the mend.

I've been living like a troglodyte too, but today is my first day of teaching classes, and let's just say, my students must constantly be reminded to wear their masks (over all of the Covid holes, please). I kind of think that at this point, we're all doomed to get it.

Makes me doubly committed to remaining a trogdolyte for awhile longer.

I have been looking at a job that I want to apply for, but it is in an office. Been really going back and forth about it. If I took the job, I'd have to go buy some work drag - slacks, jacket, etc. Stuff I got rid of when I retired.

Did a preliminary reconnaisance of what's on the racks this weekend, and sad to report, NOTHING! They only had sweats, jeggings and yoga pants leftover from whenever. They haven't had new shipments in weeks. I would never wear stuff like that to a job.

Between the clothing shortage and your post, I guess I am staying home for awhile longer!

Hope you get better soon, and that your granddaughter bounces back. Your RN daughter worries me that she would do this to you.

... not only with you but also with her own kids. This is so unfair and frankly scary. Stay tough my friend, and try to remain positive. The quarantine time is 10 days to the safety zone. It's 5 days only if you're required to report back to work. Many of us believe that 5 days is way too soon and it's a dangerous way to possibly infect others.

I haven't had the virus (yet) but other DUers have reported that a sore throat is a sure sign. Not necessarily running a temperature because it doesn't always happen that way. One thing I know for sure, if you should have any difficulty breathing, call 911 immediately.

Good luck and stay safe.

I just found out my 20-yr old granddaughter decided to skip her booster - no particular reason. Now she has covid and is quite sick with it. My son said her temp spiked up to 104 at one point and she really feels lousy. Went for a test but they closed it down before she got to the front of the line. Was going to try getting a test today. Good times . . . .

Remember now that recommendations are changing to swab the nostrils and then the throat as well. Some false positives show from just nostril swabbing.

you're going to be just fine. Hydrate. Make sure you get up and walk around the rooms you are in (to help avoid blood clots!) and enjoy netflix and movies!

I know you're angry, and I get why. But this is so contagious. You can't live a perfectly insulated life while still seeing your grandkids, so this is a part of it all. She was vaccinated. Sounds like she tried some wishful thinking boosting that didn't work, and that's unfortunate.

But you've done all the things you can to protect your health, so I hope that you don't feel much worse than you do now. Best of luck!

They could have possibly been the carrier you got it from but they might have gotten it from mom originally anyway so it still possibly circles back to her. Many vaccinated/boosted and mask wearing folks I know are getting Omicron now, my 71 year old uncle fully vaccinated just got out of the hospital from it.

saved me. Entire family has come down with Covid within last year, including vaccinated daughter who works in a nursing home. Son was driving to Oklahoma City for his grandmother's 97th birthday, but stopped in Ardmore for a test, found he has Covid and drove back as far as Dallas to stay in motel. Now granddaughter who lives with me is sick, has CVS appointment later today for test. So I'm wearing a mask in my own home.
