Canadian politician blasted for sharing photo of wife shoveling snow after her 12-hour hospital shift
Jon Reyes, a Manitoba Cabinet minister, faced the wrath of Twitter followers for standing inside in the warmth and taking the photo while his wife, Cynthia Reyes, shoveled snow in below-freezing temperatures.
"Even after a 12 hour night shift at the hospital last night, my wife still has the energy to shovel the driveway," Reyes tweeted Saturday morning. "God bless her and all our frontliners. Time to make her some breakfast."
The tweet went viral, but not for the reasons Reyes would have hoped. Twitter users berated the Cabinet minister for not helping his wife and for not having the driveway already shoveled before she returned home.

(4,555 posts)It's a perfectly reasonable observation - to spell it out, maybe the guy is not physically capable of heavy physical labour, including shoveling snow.
whathehell
(29,067 posts)Whatever his physical condition, he could have at least hired someone to shovel the snow.
Sorry. but he sounds like an inconsiderate dolt
suffering from a case of Male Entitlement.

(4,555 posts)Maybe he tried to hire someone and no-one was available in time?
"Inconsiderate dolt", "Male Entitlement"?
The point is you don't know any of those things - you have no evidence on which to base such aspersions.
Good grief, is there not enough already out there to be indignant about without dredging up something like this??

Sorry if my "judgement" offends you, but I think you're
taking all of this much too seriously..The man's not
facing jail time, or anything, so you might want to
lighten up a bit. Have a good one.

I can't find much in the way of policies. They say they are fiscally conservative economic liberals. Whatever the fuck that means.
I just found this:
"The Progressive Conservatives (PC) were, until 2006, the only party other than the Liberals that ever governed Canada. It traced its origins to the Tories of the 19th century, a group of Canadians in the colonial era who defined themselves through their staunch loyalty to British rule, Protestant Christianity, and English culture (Tory is still used as a nickname for Canadian conservatives to this day). During the 20th century, the party was mostly a broad alliance of people who were not Liberals, but was still considered primarily a party for English Canadian interests. The PCs underwent a significant ideological shift under the leadership of Brian Mulroney (b. 1939), a Quebec-born corporate CEO who became PC leader and then prime minister from 1984 to 1993. Mulroneys rise represented the triumph of a new flavor of conservative thought, based mostly around free-market economics, that swept much of the western world during the 1980s. Mulroneys second term in office proved deeply unpopular, however, and in the 1993 election the PC party was all but wiped out, plummeting from 169 seats in Parliament to only two."
Definitely not liberal. Kind of like National Socialists (NAZI's) aren't Socialists, wink wink, nudge nudge...

(41,984 posts)We know nothing other than what he told us. We don't know whether she's the kind of person who can't be still until something no one else thinks has to be done right then is done. He could be in the middle of important business but took the time to feel she deserved some admiration. He may have waked up to look out the window and seen her, not knowing she was home and have said "Honey, I'll get that!" and she may have replied "I've got it. How about you fix me breakfast?"
Having the angry eyes of the world on us all the time is poisonous. I'm not pointing at any individual; I think it's everyone, acting as though their words are private, harmlessly snarky conversations, when in fact they do things like this, go viral and grow until the reality of the situation is immaterial, just the performance made of it. But real people are then treated as if this performed reality is real. and it causes all kinds of trouble.
