It seems counterproductive to me, but the GA voters rights advocates have been working so hard for so long on this that I can understand their frustration.

(5,546 posts)their take on things. I am getting very frustrated with the lack of urgency. If they lose old, white women like myself it is game over. I expect this to be taken down so go for it. Just telling my truth here.

Because I NEVER understand how people can see this and a thousand other problems they should never have allowed to develop and not fight FOR REAL to fix them.
And now a potential fascist dictator's added himself to the list.
Unbelievable.

(9,865 posts)This is about getting media coverage nation-wide about the backasswardness of Georgia legislators.
It's about the whole country becoming more aware of how racist Georgia voting suppression is. The issue could lead the news that same night if these boy-cotters would show up with their signs and even their anger at Joe.
The '22 election is already being framed as "stolen" if the Democrats win. For once we're doing some proactive media about what's at stake.
They should welcome this visit.

(24,412 posts)I get their frustration but Biden is not a king and he's got a 50-50 Democratic Senate with two Senators being obstructionist. If they want to help, they should be there to help strengthen his hand.

(1,822 posts)While Biden is not a king, he should have used his political capital months ago to get Voters Rights passed. You can't out organize what the republicans are doing. History is littered with examples of the rights of women, LGBT, black and brown people being bargaining chips. Sinema and Manchin have failed to bring along one of their republican counterparts on Manchin's version. What a disgrace.
If Voting Rights are not passed, the Democrats will and should lose their foot soldiers. Manchin and Simena can officially join the republicans and be forever ignored. No more interviews, no more reporters, no more spotlight.
I'm over the argument about the 50-50 split. You can bet your backside that if McConnell wanted to get something done, he would have changed the filibuster rules...
Oh yeah he did, that is why we have the Supreme Court that we do.

(25,981 posts)Yes, it took longer than anyone would like, but it's not as though President Biden hasn't been busy with cleaning up a billion messes left behind by tfg, COVID, the BBB, Russia, stalled appointments, and on and on. Show up to talk to him, air your grievances, add to the discussion. Staying away is refusing to support the guy who is trying his best to help.
Biden and Harris have not been idle on the issue.

President Joe Biden met with civil rights leaders in the West Wing, while Vice President Kamala Harris announced $25 million in new spending by the Democratic National Committee to support efforts to protect voting access ahead of the 2022 midterm elections. [snip]
Although not abandoning hope of a legislative solution, the West Wing has been shifting focus to other measures to protect the vote, including legal remedies pursued by the Department of Justice and in individual states, according to the officials. There also will be an emphasis on boosting voter turnout, with aides pointing to the successes Democrats had in getting out votes last year during the height of the pandemic. [snip]
Were past the point where weve lost faith that hes going to do it on his own, said Cliff Albright, co-founder of the Black Voters Matter Fund. Wheres your voting rights tour? People have already started to call this out. Thats just going to escalate.
Better late than never, here it is - the voting rights tour you wanted. WTH?

(15,325 posts)This is a sabatogue move by a group hijacking the work of Dems like Stacy Abrams as their own while demoralizing the Democrats lifelong history of voting rights.

(15,325 posts)Not sure what they expected Biden to do, more than his power allows.
To attempt to divide off the Black voting block in such a blatant way is a disgrace to our Dem leaders, who have never failed in calling for voting rights, standing solidly beside John Lewis, MLK, RFK, Bill Clinton, & our long history of their solid support in return.
It has been President Biden, VP Harris & our Dem Leaders, along with the CBC who have been the most vocal advocates for the John Lewis Act. Lewis was the solid friend of Dem Party leaders in Congress.
He would be appalled by this kind of rejection shown against the only power who has ever believed in & stood solidly with his call for Voting rights.
That was made clear in the past 3 elections, where their alliance stands.
This group's refusal to support the President & VP Harris, & the denigrating terminology they use as reasoning for doing so, is straight out of the Momentum Movement/Sunrise playbook.
My annoyance wasn't aimed at you at all. Thanks for the information about the complaining group. I appreciate it - it hadn't occurred to me that that was what was going on until you explained it.
Also, sometimes I'm so slow on the uptake that it just didn't occur to me that you would think my flip comment was aimed at you. It finally clicked today, while reading another thread about the topic. Sorry about that!

LW authoritarian demand for the strong government they want (government should take care of us!),
LW antagonistic populism (destroy the elites!),
LW anti-establishmentarianism (destroy the establishment!),
LW racists (won't join the RW racists, so attack Democrats from the left)
the fascist-leaning Republican Party may take control again. As we see, the trumpists aren't the only ones who'll do it all over again. They're not afraid.
