(17,181 posts)Nor the ABC is saying it's definite, only that the Minister is yet to decide if he'll cancel the visa.
This is a live page, constantly updating...

The world awaits the decision from Immigration Minister Alex Hawke on whether he will use his ministerial power to cancel tennis player Novak Djokovic's visa.
The question he must answer is this: Is Djokovic "a risk to the health, safety or good order of the Australian community or a segment of the Australian community", as stated in the immigration act?
According to Australian policy at the time that Djokovic boarded his flight on January 5 in Dubai, he was not a risk. By the time he landed, he had become one.

No news yet - I heard there was to be no decision on Thursday evening. It's 7am Friday here and nothing overnight although The Age is reporting Djokovic will appeal if he's kicked out.

(70,578 posts)... the court better then I have ever seen but for him to spread the disease and then act like he knows more
about science and epidemiology then real experts shows me that he is a no good shit.
Fuck him. He is a punk.

However this stunt by Djokovic makes me wish that he never gets to play big time tennis again.

(7,715 posts)Rafa has had lots of injuries, and Roger is a bit older.
It's funny: back in the 1970s and 1980s, folks like Bjorn Borg, John McEnroe, and Jimmy Connors rarely played the Australian Open. While it was a grand slam, it ranked WAY below the other three Slams in terms of prestige. It was also in December during Christmas and New Year's Day, which didn't help attract the big names. The only time a big-name player played was if there was a shot at winning Grand Slam, and that didn't happen much.
Moving the Australian Open from December to January was an incredibly smart move, as it meant a player couldn't have a chance at a same-year Grand Slam without participating in the Australian Open. That changed in the early 1980s
I often wonder what the Slam tally for greats like Borg, McEnroe, and Connors would have been had they played the AO much more. Half of No Facts Djokovic's Grand Slams come from the AO. And while Rafa has the bulk of his from the French Open, I still personally think his haul is a greater accomplishment.
Of course, head-to-head competition numbers tell the story best.
Botany
(70,578 posts).... hard courts when they were younger even though Roger was a bit older then Djokovic. Don't
get me wrong I like Roger a lot more than Djokovic and think head to head and if their ages were
even he would beat Djokovic.
However Djokovic actions in spreading the disease and lying to do so goes far beyond tennis and/or
sports the man is just a punk and an asshole. If he never plays again I am fine with that.

(14,176 posts)only one or two players from outside Australia and Chris Evert only played it once before 1981. Imagine how different the record books would look if Court had to regularly face someone like Billie Jean in the AO and Evert/Navratilova etc regularly played AO earlier.

(note: I'm not asking if the ban would actually happen. He's the #1 player in the world, OF COURSE they won't end up banning him for 3 years, I'm just asking whether that tough talk/bluster from the powers that be ever actually happened)

(9,998 posts)I know, I know, Matt Gaetz was going to be arrested last May, and it is imminent that TFG is going to be charged with all sorts of crimes, and now Australia is going to nut up and kick this POS out of their country.
I'll still believe it when I see it. I still believe that there are forces who want him to compete in the tournament, and are going to see to it that he does.
The idea of him being arrested and led off the court during a match, seems as far fetched as all those memes from years ago showing Karl Rove being dragged away in handcuffs. I'll believe it when I see it. I must admit, it would be glorious, which is why I don't expect it to happen.

(1,292 posts)revokes his visa, he can file a review of the decision with the court. It would be heard by Fed court at the earliest tomorrow and if not next week. He can stay until then and play but if the court agrees the revocation is valid, he will be kicked out of Australia even if mid tournament.

(9,998 posts)I hate being rude or abrasive, but all of these wonderful things being posted are giving a false belief that there is accountability and justice. Rather, it is apparent there is not, and the pessimistic view wins out the vast majority of the time. And not just a majority of the time, but a VAST majority.
Honestly, I believed from the beginning that he would end up playing in the tournament. Douchebag that he is. The little details of his Douchieness that have come out, never dissuaded me from thinking that he would get his way, and those who find him reprehensible, would be left feeling dejected and taken advantage of.
And here we are. Sad to say the reality is that if you are special, you can act like the biggest Asshole if you feel like it.
But the media will still keep that positive spin out there, to make everybody think that THIS TIME will be different. It won't, and the path of disappointment will win out the VAST majority of the time, for those of us who long for decency and accountability.

(269,157 posts)Australia has revoked tennis star Novak Djokovic's visa for a second time in a row over his right to remain in the country unvaccinated.
The decision on "health and good order" grounds means he could be deported and get a three-year visa ban.
However, the 34-year-old Serbian can still launch another legal challenge to remain in Australia.

(101,361 posts)The Express is a dumb tabloid. It's not just its ideology that's the problem, it's that it prints any old dumb shit that springs into the mind of its staff. The other tabloids have a strategy and plan; the Express just makes its readers dumber.

But he still does have the opportunity to appeal a 2nd time, so it's not over yet.
Hopefully his appeal over the weekend is unsuccessful, and he is on a plane back to Serbia by Monday, and prohibited from competing that day.
